Fish curry - aibu?

I made a fish curry last night using haddock in a tomato-based sauce. There was a decent amount left over after dinner and I left it sitting in the pan (with a lid on) in the kitchen overnight.

I'd like to reheat it for dinner tonight, possibly adding in some frozen prawns and more tomatoes to make it a bigger meal. Aibu to worry I'll get food poisoning or is this perfectly safe? I'm not an experienced cook and reheating things does unnerve me!

Would it be okay to add in the frozen prawns when reheating, or do I need to defrost them first? Should I put the curry in the fridge now before reheating later?

It should have gone in the fridge by 90 mins after cooking. I wouldn’t chance it

ceeveebee · 07/03/2019 08:40

Hmm I’m usually pretty lax about these things but I wouldn’t eat it after leaving it out overnight.

Happynow001 · 07/03/2019 08:41

I wouldn't chance it now as it's been out overnight.

PickledLimes · 07/03/2019 08:42

I wouldn't eat it after it lying out overnight. It should have been put in the fridge.

Shockers · 07/03/2019 08:44

Is your kitchen cold at night? If so, I’d stick it in the fridge now and reheat thoroughly later.

GETTINGLIKEMYMOTHER · 07/03/2019 08:45

Unless the kitchen is heated overnight, I'd use it, but then I'm relaxed about these things and nobody has ever become ill.

But I'd reheat it thoroughly before adding defrosted prawns/other fish to cook. Or in the case of ready cooked defrosted prawns, to heat through.

forky882 · 07/03/2019 08:46

Oh no - I wish I'd thought to put it in the fridge!

Shockers there's no heating on overnight, but I'm a bit nervous to risk it now after everyone else's replies.

I guess I'll know for next time!

Tbh twice cooked fish is overcooked and wouldn't be nice. I'd have cooked the spices and sauce and put half to one side and added half the fish and only cooked what I needed. Sorry not useful right now

Disfordarkchocolate · 07/03/2019 08:47

I wouldn't chance it with fish.

greendale17 · 07/03/2019 08:48

I would eat it

namechangechanger · 07/03/2019 08:48

I would but my house is always freezing so basically like a giant fridge 😂

forky882 · 07/03/2019 08:48

I didn't think of that either AmIRight, but that's a great tip, thanks. Clearly I have a lot to learn!

Not a chance. I never chance it with fish.

BuffaloCauliflower · 07/03/2019 08:55

I’m extremely lax with food safety and I wouldn’t eat it. A veggie curry yes but not fish too. There’s really only a very small risk, but not one I’d take

stepup123 · 07/03/2019 08:57

I'd eat it, but then I'm not fussy about these things and I've never had food poisoning....yet ;)

breeze44 · 07/03/2019 09:02

I've left fish based dishes out overnight before and then just put it in the fridge in the morning and reheated it thoroughly later the same day. I wouldn't add in the frozen prawns though as it would probably take longer to cook them than you would need for reheating the original dish.

HarrysOwl · 07/03/2019 09:10

I'm really relaxed with food - I'll happily eat anything that's not green/slimy even if it's a month over use-by date. I hate waste.

But I wouldn't chance it with something that's been left out overnight, not worth the risk, urrrg I'd hate throwing it out but rather that than being horribly poorly.

NutElla5x · 07/03/2019 09:11

If you're kitchen is reasonably cool at night it could well be ok to eat. Smell it,if it smells ok I'd risk it but definitely put it in the fridge now!

breeze44 · 07/03/2019 09:13

Why do you think things left out overnight are particularly risky? I've done this many times because they usually don't cool down enough before bedtime, and I've never been ill from it.

Shockers · 07/03/2019 09:18

Why don’t you take the fish out and bin it, refrigerate the sauce, then use it for the prawns later?

Shockers · 07/03/2019 09:19

Only because of the twice cooking thing- I’d still eat the fish, personally.

Cold curried fish salad wrap for lunch?

Eliza9917 · 07/03/2019 09:20

I'd eat it, if it goes in the fridge now. I'd also add prawns frozen. Just started heat thoroughly.

GingerFoxInAT0phat · 07/03/2019 09:22

I personally wouldn’t but I am squeamish with food at the best of times. Dh has done this with fish curry, and other curry’s plenty of times. He’ll heat up the whole pan a few times for a portion Confused
Don’t know how he doesn’t get ill from it.

Justamemory · 07/03/2019 09:26

I've left veg out overnight before now and it's gone off by the morning! We do have an Aga though. Give it a good smell and try a little and see how it is.

1tisILeClerc · 07/03/2019 09:26

Put in fridge now, if you haven't already and make sure it is all properly heated through before eating.
Defrost the prawns and possibly heat them through with the extra ingredients before adding it to last night's portion, which should be hot.
As long as you are not feeding it to very young or infirm people it will probably be fine.
