.. To think Duolingo is too repetitive

I've been doing Duolingo since the weekend and am up to level 3 on some topics. However, I seem to do 20 or so lessons containing several questions that all seem to be 'the man and a horse, the cat and the boy' It doesn't feel like it's progressing!? Anyone think the same? As a teacher I understand the need for repetition but this is ridiculous 😂

Use the key logo to test out of the level and move up. Problem solved Grin

All the apples!

Loftyswops988 · 06/03/2019 23:00

If you really want to take it all in the repetitiveness is necessary! I'm completely fluent in the language of a country I lived in all due to duolingo and as much as I haaaated the repetition it definitely worked Grin

AlexaShutUp · 06/03/2019 23:02

Repetition works! Personally, I think that's why kids are better at learning languages than adults. They don't seem to mind the repetition.

AllesAusLiebe · 06/03/2019 23:08

Are you learning Spanish, OP? I’m trying to learn through a combination of Duolingo and Babbel and finding exactly the same frustrations!

Have you tried the Easy Languages channels on YouTube? I’ve found them to be very helpful. Smile

Bloodybridget · 06/03/2019 23:15

Yes I have used Duolingo to brush up Spanish and French and it does drive me nuts with repetitiveness. They should use a wider vocabulary.

UterusUterusGhali · 06/03/2019 23:21

Oh god the apples!

And that bastard owl is so fucking persistent.

circeplease · 06/03/2019 23:24

The key tests stop being free after the first level or two. I’ve given up as it’s so repetitive, I agree.

UbbesPonytail · 06/03/2019 23:28

It’s similar to the Pimsleur method. The repetition is what helps you remember and that focus on the most commonly used words. Although why ‘skollpadder’ (turtle)is so prevelant in Swedish, I have no idea.

And it really does get more varied once you move up levels.

Unihorn · 06/03/2019 23:28

Yeah I just use the key to skip as I have two years of university Spanish that I'm trying to refresh and I really don't want to keep writing hombre. I've never had an issue with having to pay to use the key?

Handbaghag · 07/03/2019 20:20

ahhhh...never knew about the key!!
French - already have GCSE that i want to brush up but I definitely know the words for man, woman, dog and cat....

Did you do the ability test when you set it iluso @Handbaghag ? You don't have to start at the beginning

BloodyBosch · 08/03/2019 21:59

Iluso must be courtesy of auto correct! * set it up

Tilikum · 08/03/2019 22:28

"The woman is eating the apple"

Duo will not teach you a language. It will only give you a skim. It can be useful at a superficial level

Handbaghag · 09/03/2019 09:14

I did the ability test at the start and in just trying to brush up my GCSE French.
