Prednisolone- steroids?

Has anyone used this before?

I've been prescribed it for swelling of the tonsils and a bit apprehensive to take it.

I also have to take 10mg 2x daily but have noted that one of the common side effects is insomnia and in this case, I'll be taking it close to bedtime?

Should I just stop freaking out?

singwhenyoureswimming hydrocortisone and fludrocortisone are the most standard treatment for Addison’s and are what the majority of people take .

There is a Uk Addison’s forum on Facebook with 4K members which is extremely active if your mum is interested. I’ve learnt so much since being on it. Lots of people do take pred instead of hydrocortisone, many people seem to get on better with it, although I’m not entirely sure why...! Hydrocortisone is the standard steroid given initially. Not everyone with Addison’s takes Fludro - I don’t. For some people it causes chaos with the very thing it’s supposed to regulate - blood pressure. My blood pressure is naturally very low - as is my potassium (unusually for someone with Addison’s) so they don’t prescribe it for me.

Facebook group is called Uk Addison’s Disease Information and Support group. It’s a closed group.

My BP would be non existent without my fludrocortisone !

I took it for 17 years to manage urticaria.

If you are taking it long term, make sure you have lots of calcium. I did and my bone density tests were always fine.

I took it for a few weeks to treat my hyperemesis, it worked wonders. I didnt really notice any side effects apart from being finally able to keep food down and gain weight Grin
