We're in a 2 bed property. A 1 Yr of dd. 13yr old ds. Dd is in with us at the moment and when older she can go in ds room to sleep on bottom bunk.. Toys etc elsewhere..

However thinking long term. We are HA and hcve been told the wait will be approx 5 years.

Dsd is 6 and is here often.. She stays on bottom, Bunk currently.
Obviously over time that's not a good Solution.

We can't afford to. Rent private.. Plus I have massive fears of doing so after previous bad experiences.

We love our home. We did think about a sofa bed in lounge for us.. And using our room for the girls. But wondering if that would be a faff after a while.

Any experience..? If so what's a good. Every day sofa bed.?

My ex and I did this. Gave the bedrooms to our children and slept in the living room - for about 2 years. it was fine.

We had a Murphy bed arrangement that we could fold away during the day into a large cupboard. That way the bed is full size and the mattress comfortable.

I recommend that you make sure you have a door on your living room, that the children have access to other rooms like the kitchen without having to go through the living room and that there are strict boundaries in place about when they can use the living room. I've that they must knock if the door is closed etc.

If you choose a sofa bed - see if you can get one of those try before you commit type offers. My sofa bed is for very occasional use, but it is uncomfortable both as a bed and a sofa.

Plenty of people in mainland Europe have large open plan flats with a sofa bed for daily use. Just buy a good quality one, try it out first

Every sofa bed I've used has been terrible. The metal frame is thin, the springs insubstantial and the mattress too thin to give any comfort.

You could consider a Japanese style futon which is a kind of mattress designed to put on the floor - which could actually be good for your back too. Can't say I've ever used one, but I'm aware of them.

Have a look at homeguides.sfgate.com/futons-ok-sleeping-night-51220.html or search for "Japanese futon".

My DP and I slept on a sofa bed in our living room for just over a year. Our property was small only 2 bedrooms and my mum (who is ill and lives with me) was in one bedroom and my 2dc shared the other.
It was really tough especially towards the end. Not having proper space to relax or store clothes etc was annoying. It was doable for the time we did it though.

What about a Murphy bed or study bed? They would probably be more comfortable for you for long term use?

Was in Ikea last week and this one looked quite good. Lifts up to stow bedding under too. Called flottebo.

Ikea frighten would be ideal. It’s great as a sofa and has storage fir bedding. Admittedly it’s oretty firm as a mattress but supportive and won’t sag.
Or a triple bunk in your room and your daughter could sleep above you? Mine would love that.

The reason I liked it was it was quite nice to sit on as a really wide sofa. Would be comfy

Sofa beds in my personal opinion are shite.
We spent quite a lot on the last one and had a “deluxe” mattress.
Was like sleeping on springs

When we first got together, we were in a studio flat and used a fold-out sofa bed - it was fine for the first few months but became an annoying faff if I'm honest - it had no storage for the duvets, pillows and sheets so we had to shove them in the hall cupboard every day and we soon got fed up of having to make the bed when we were already tired and just wanted to climb into bed and go to sleep.
Good for a short term thing, but I wouldn't do it again long-term

IKEA Hennes (day bed style) is a great bed in my experience, though make sure you go for one of the better mattresses. I think we have the second or third one up from cheapest IYSWIM and it's good - I wouldn't fancy sleeping regularly on the cheapest one, it didn't feel very supportive to the touch.

We just put our bed in the living room in a one bedroom apartment so dc has a bedroom. Works for us as the living room is just big enough and suitable shape to be sort of divided. Have a look on Pinterest for small spaces inspiration?
