Not religious, and not original, but I'm giving up chocolate for lent. I'm attempting it as an exercise in self control, as this is something I seem to be lacking at the moment - specifically in relation to chocolate!

I also have a spa day booked for two days after Easter Sunday, so I'm hoping 40 days with no chocolate binges and a bit more exercise will see me looking better in a swimsuit!

I've never really understood these comments glorifying the devil as something fun. The devil represents every aspect of torture and evil and suffering. It's like saying "I want to go to hell (i.e eternal torment through the absence of God) because that's where all the fun people go." Even taking the religious aspect out, it doesn't make logical sense?

Even when I was fairly unreligious, the representation never made sense...

God killed millions in the Bible. The devil killed 4.

Seems like God and his temper are a much worse wrath to face.

God is the author of life so he has the right to create life and to permit it being taken away. I trust that He will always work for the good in any bad situation. Furthermore, death isn't the end for us. The devil and man can kill life but only God has the power to give eternal life.

Also, if we're talking about OT, Catholics don't use Sola Scriptura so we don't take everything in the OT as literal as well.

I believe in the devil (temptation), so a wise soul once told me that you can't believe in evil without believing in good. Fair point.
