To think that nursery aged kids do get ill quite often?

Every time DS1 gets ill my DH and MIL get in a flap about how “he gets ill so much”, “why is he so unhealthy”, etc etc. I was on the toilet just now and DH comes in saying “my mum is really worried about DS1 and is asking why he is always ill!”

This is a list of how often in the last year he has been ill.
Spring 2018: d&v bug, off nursery for a week due to 48hr rule
Autumn 2018: I collected him from nursery at lunchtime due to high temperature. Fine the next day.
Christmas: ill for one day with sore tummy and diarrhoea.
2 weeks ago: DH collected from nursery at lunchtime due to high temperature, fine the next day.
Since yesterday: high temperature but responding to calpol etc.

Tbh I thought this was kind of standard for a 4 year old and up til recently we’ve had a really good run this winter. AIBU?

Omg my DS has got ill about once a week for months now
Hopefully he's just building his immune system (his sister did the same when she was little)

My GP said that about 7 illnesses a year is normal. They always get ill at nursery, and your child doesn’t sound like they’ve been ill that much really.

DS doesn't go more than 4 weeks without picking something up and he isn't even at nursery. Kids just get ill, it is perfectly normal.

My DDad is the same - constantly clutching his pearls because DS4 has a runny nose but every kid in nursery has.

Whatever age a child starts to be more exposed to loads of kids, whether it be nursery, play group, pre-school or school, they will, IMO, have a period where they seem to catch all the bugs and lurgies.

It's tough when you're going through it.

My youngest's first few months of nursery saw me off with my own mother's death, him having a couple of stomach bugs and conjunctivitis. I was only working 3 days a week and it seemed I didn't do a 'full' week for months.

I think it's the norm.

sounds normal.

Ds got every bug going for the first year after starting nursery. To be honest it hasn't got much better since then. he was off 4 times last year, 2 sick bugs, chicken pox and then impetigo!

this year so far he's been off once. Sick bug.
