To expect DD to have a scan tomorrow

My DD(17) complained of calf pain was on Thursday. GP send her straight to A&E as he said there is a tiny chance she has a DVT, she has been spending a lot of time resting due to having glandular fever.
The blood test DD had at A&E show that there is a chance she has a
DVT and she was given a fragmin injection. This was very early hours of Friday morning. She was sent home and we returned to day services later that day to collect some fragmin to give her at home, we were told we would get a call Monday to arrange a scan which would probably be Wednesday at the earliest.

I just looked up the NICE guidelines and they state that a scan should be given within 24 hours, we are already past that. AIBU to expect them to try to fit her in tomorrow?

She's getting the treatment, isn't she? That's the main thing. I had heparin injections into the stomach when I had a dvt, done by a nurse in the hospital. This was 18 years ago. Things have moved on a lot since then.

It may be totally unnecessary treatment which is my concern.

I think that’s pretty shocking. Twice I’ve had a clot and both times I had scanned within 24 hours.

GrandmaSharksDentures · 03/03/2019 22:08

Yep, agreed should be scanned tomorrow. In an ideal world scanning would be available over the weekend but sadly (in my place) there just aren't the resources available everyday

Roomchanging · 03/03/2019 22:08

They can’t fit her in if there isn’t a space. A 5 day wait isn’t unusual in my hospital. I’ve seen hundreds of patients over the years wait longer for considerably more important scans. You could pay and have a private scan tomorrow (or indeed could have already had a scan) otherwise you sit in the NHS queue.

Lovingbenidorm · 03/03/2019 22:09

That’s the NHS I’m afraid

Readytogogogo · 03/03/2019 22:09

YANBU and in all the hospitals I've worked in, you can generally get the Doppler within 24 hours (not over weekend). Difficult to know from your experience if this is the standard wait locally, or if there are acute issues e.g. poor staffing.

Just got a call to say she’s got an appointment in a couple of hours. Keeping my fingers crossed it’s not a DVT.

How is your dd? :)

Orchidflower1 · 06/03/2019 10:00

How was the scan op?

Darkbaptism · 06/03/2019 16:04

Absolutely fine, no clot thankfully!
The dr said her d-dimer blood test was raised due to her glandular fever. We were told to take her back and they would rescan if the pain got worse but I don’t think that will be needed.

Glad there was no clot op. Hope your dd feels better soon💐
