To not like the place I live?

I have moved around a lot, have been in my current West Midlands city for coming up on 3 years. I have friends here, a good job, daughter is settled in nursery and happy, she will (hopefully) get into a good school for this September. I'm only thinking about this because I went to a rugby match and realised that I was cheering for the team based in my husband's home city (where he hasn't lived for 15 years) rather than the team based where I live! How do you grow to like a place?

I've moved a lot too. I love history...so the first thing I do when in a new place, is to learn all about the history of the place.

It makes me feel more rooted and as though I know the place better. I can walk down a street and have a "memory" even though it's not my own.

For example...my current town...I know exactly where the oldest building is, where the town's first school was...where someone got killed in 1850 in a gun fight...

And I do this in every place.

I'm hoping this is my "last" home though. I don't want to move any more.

It can be tricky to feel settled, can't it! That's a good tip about learning the history. The problem about this city (and this will probably make it very obvious which one it is!) is that a lot of it was destroyed at one point in time, and rebuilt very quickly. It now just feels dated and a bit unloved. I went to a museum when we first moved here, the display was about how the city has had a lot of difficult times and was often struggling! Maybe everyone else here feels this way too

I lived for over 30 years in a place I didn't like, and not one of those years was by my own choice. We moved there when I was a child, then I met and married a guy who said he couldn't live anywhere else, although it would have made more sense to live in my home area because of his job. I wasn't actively discontented there, just not very happy overall.

I had (and still have) friends there, but I am more settled where I live now than I ever was there. Sometimes, you just don't like a place.

We've been somewhere similar for the last few years (for work). Some places just aren't cosy or settling.

I reckon I've got one more move in me before I hit proper middle age and want to settle for good. I'm going to choose VERY carefully.

Do you mean Coventry? But it's ancient! Even though it was destroyed in the Blitz, there's history everywhere!
