Just finished watching the series & now I'm watching the documentary.

On his & Debra's first date, why did he go and lie on her bed? He was clever and capable of duping people, so why did he make such a basic mistake on the first date? Was it on purpose? I don't understand it.

Her mum forgiving the murder of her sister probably paved the way as well.

I have only watched the first 15 mins of dirty john and couldn't continue after watching that seen and hearing her relay her date. Saying he was weird for doing that, so off etc. I sat there thinking wtf why is there a whole series then you already know he's a creep Grin Is it worth watching the rest?

NotANotMan · 04/03/2019 19:38

Yes it absolutely is

BartonHollow · 04/03/2019 19:45

As Jacquelyn/Veronica later discovers he is also homeless at this point and living in an RV it was a very nice bed

The number of colossal red flags the woman sallied forth past is boggling, including his desire to kill on of her children

Vgbeat · 04/03/2019 22:51

I've just listened to the podcast first.and he's only just come out of prison anday or two before

CarolDanvers · 04/03/2019 22:57

I think he simply wanted a comfortable bed for the night having only left jail two days earlier. He stomped out because he was too impatient to play the long game that night. Then he sobered up and thought about how she was clearly a wealthy woman and decided to try and turn it around and put the work in.

What I never understood was, how did he leave all his 'secret' paperwork (police reports, record, restraining orders) laying around her house and she didn't find it until too late?!

FrogOfFrogHall · 05/03/2019 06:13

I think she didn't find the paperwork because he had the cameras so she couldn't really snoop through when he wasn't there. He probably would have distracted her if she even got close to that set of drawers. In fact there was a scene which alluded to him being protective over the drawers where she was offering to buy new drawers or refurbish them or something. When she did decide to look through the paperwork she had to put quite a lot of effort into it.

I couldn’t get into it.
The daughters voice was so annoying it hurt my ears

Huggybear16 · 05/03/2019 20:29

A clip near the end showed him taking a blue pill (viagra) before taking her home that night. It had probably started to work.

HelmutFrontbut · 05/03/2019 20:51

Phah I have a friend who consistently meets men like this, she is also a successful divorced businesswoman but admits she's desperately lonely. I plead with her not to meet these men but she goes ahead and does it anyway. She 'falls in love' with them, spends a fortune on them and posts all the photos on fb/ig. Then she finds out he's a loser/married/tosser Confused She can't seem to help herself Sad

I know what you mean...the youngest daughter. I found her voice so irritating.

Dishevelled09 · 05/03/2019 23:36

He thought he was onto a promise earlier in the night and the flashback showed he took a blue pill. He also looked aroused too (not that I was looking!) in the trouser department. The daughter did have an annoying nasally voice. This was one of the best Netflix I've watched in ages, showed lots of red flags and how manipulative people can be.
