AIBU to be concerned over the increasing number of stabbings - especially the recent ones that look to be at random people?

I really think the government needs to bring the death penalty back as people just don’t seem to be worried about going to jail anymore (and with the death penalty not make it as painfree as possible. Why should they not have to suffer when their life is being ended when their victims would have been in immense pain). They painfully kill someone, go to jail, then come out a few years later to carry on with their lives. 😡😡

Or, we could do outlandish things like properly fund the police and fund support services (including mental health, drug and addiction support, community initiatives to help young people at risk of joining gangs etc)?

I think we have the problem of extended adolescence. How do you show you are a grown up if you are stuck in a dead end situation. No job, no prospect of a job, no place of your own, no prospect of a place of your own.

You end up with skewed role models. The people who seem to be doing well are in gangs, committing crimes, dealing drugs. These are the people with cash to splash. They get 'respect' in the neighbourhood (mostly fear).

Viewed from an amoral perspective, joining a gang, becoming a petty thief, drug dealer, carrying a knife makes sense. The rewards come quickly.

Getting to a position of having prospects takes hard work, diligence, commitment. All a bit dull and counter to what is going on.

Certainly agree with being concerned with the amount of stabbings recently, its horrific and lots are young people stabbing young people. It just seems out of control at the moment. But do not agree about bringing back the death penalty at all.
