Is there anything more annoying than a tissue wash??

So infuriating to unload the washing machine to discover a rogue tissue has disintegrated all over the clothes. Please say I'm not the only one this happens to??!

@Turkeycondundrum

Feel your pain...been there Angry

sproutsandparsnips · 02/03/2019 20:16

I have washed many tissues, a disposable nappy and - horror - a biro, in a white wash.....

Bravelurker · 02/03/2019 20:19

Surely a red sock in a white wash is worse.
But I get annoyed when I find darks/whites /colours that I have found way too late to add to the appropriate wash and because I live on my own it takes ages to fill the washing machine.

LuvSmallDogs · 02/03/2019 20:27

The worst is my bloody DH, putting his work clothes in the basket with pens in so they explode on stuff.Angry

HoppityFrog3 · 02/03/2019 20:28

Happens to me at LEAST once a fucking week! Hmm

@MitziK
"Yes. Finding out your knitwear has been accidentally put through a 60 wash by a well meaning but ultimately distracted DP."
Thanks for bringing back memories of 43 years ago and the horror still lingers in my tiny male brain. My DW was not well after our PFB was born. I did a wash at 100 degrees as hot as the machine would go so everything was perfectly clean for our baby.
I had two questions when I emptied the washing machine:

  1. Where did the small square of solid matted wool come from?
  2. Where had the beautiful hand knitted shawl that my DW's relative had given us gone?
I wonder if this is yet another reason why she is now my DexW

Out of curiosity what happens to a disposable nappy if you accidentally put it in the washing machine? Stay in tact or completely shred?

shred and explode tiny beads all over the place. So much fun Angry

safariboot · 02/03/2019 23:18

A yellow duster sneaking in. I still have a pale yellow towel somewhere - that was pure white before that happened!

Bravelurker · 02/03/2019 23:18

Omg John, you have just reminded me of a monumental fuck up I made as a teenager with my DM beautiful mohair jumper and the subsequent cover up.

So DM during the summer holidays left me to look after my little DB and do chores around the house and one of them included taking the washing out of the washing machine and put it into the tumble dryer (I have no idea why it never went on the washing line as it was summer).
I did as I was told and then took it out when finished. To my horror, the gorgeous red off the shoulder mohair had shrunk to fit a new born.
I knew my DM would have gone balastic as we were poor and she was a young single parent and always stressed.
So I did the only thing I could think of at the time time and put the washing back into the washing machine for another wash and tell my DM that I had forgotten to take it out, knowing she would've done exactly the same.
And she did Grin

If you use Kleenex Balsam tissues (or cheaper alternatives) they don't disintegrate in the wash, they come out in one piece. However they do block drains if flushed down the loo. Swings and roundabouts.

LuvSmallDogs · 03/03/2019 08:24

I’ve washed a disposable nappy before, didn’t shred but some of the little crystals came out, so I just brushed them off the clothes, checked the wash didn’t smell of pee (it didn’t, just lovely Daz smell), and hung it to dry. Blush

TheMarbleFaun · 03/03/2019 08:56

So if you put the clothes in the dryer for a few minutes will all the bits of tissue magic off?

EmilyBishopmyconfession · 03/03/2019 09:04

Second this. I have rhinitis so am constantly snotty, I am also a slattern so chuck things in the wash willy-nilly, but Kleenex balsam tissues always stay intact. I get mine from Poundland.

They are also really soft.

CaptainButtock · 03/03/2019 09:34

I once inadvertently washed a tampon (in jeans pocket) You should have seen the size of it! 😮
Like a grapefruit. Couldn’t work out what the hell it was until I saw the blue string 😆

Treefloof · 03/03/2019 12:34

Oh forgot when I left unused dog poo bags in a jacket pocket. They turned into tiny shreds that would not come off the fleece. After 12 or so rewashes I gave up and threw jacket out. It was originally blue, then had the tiny flecks of pink all over. At least it wasn't new.

minionsrule · 03/03/2019 12:38

I once washed DH's shirt with train tickets in the breast pocket.... same effect as a tissue Angry

PhilipSteak · 03/03/2019 12:40

OP I opened the washing machine to think “this ain’t no ordinary tissue ..it’s a Monster tissue” all over a full load of mixed darks.
I started untangling clothes, searching in pockets to find the culprit. All the time is was thinking “but there’s so much of it, and it’s not coming off when I try to pick it off ..?”
Blush I had somehow manage to scoop a paperback book with the pike of clothes.
That’s right, put in a whole load of washing with a book
Had to separate stuff, hand rinse, then wash again about three timeS.

PhilipSteak · 03/03/2019 12:41

In my defence it was holiday washing - just come out of a suitcase and there was loads of it.

Binglebong · 03/03/2019 12:46

Put a microfiber clothing the tumble dryer (the cleaning kind with little bobbles). Best thing I know for getting rid of tissues. Although I'm tempted to try the asprins now!
