AIBU to wish that AIBU was reserved for AIBUs?

This is (semi)lighthearted, but is anyone else noticing lots of people posting completely irrelevant threads in AIBU "for traffic"? Or because "they don't know where else to post"? AIBU seems to be increasingly turning into a catch-all general board. I've been around MN for a good few years, and I've definitely noticed an uptick in this. I remember when all this were badly behaved neighbours, arguments with the family, and parking wars old gimmer

I've noticed lots of the main culprits can be broken down into the following categories:

"My DH is being a dick" - sorry to hear that, but there's a whole Relationships topic which will be more appropriate, will give you better advice, and will be less bunfighty.

"I can't be arsed to google travel tips / product reviews / instructions / recipes - give me yours" - YABU and lazy. If you can't figure out how a search bar works then at least post in the relevant topic. MN has loads of forums, go discover them! There's a travel board, a food board, a diet board, pets boards, there's even an entire products board!

"I need fashion / skincare / hair advice" - see above. Style and Beauty is thataway ^

"I need serious legal / professional advice". Top tip: strangers on an internet forum are almost certainly not your best bet. You will almost certainly get contradictory, often incorrect, confusing advice and you'll be no further forward (let's face it, we've all seen these threads where lots of posters tell each other they're wrong for 15 pages and in the end the OP is told just to go to the union or the CAB). See a RL professional.

"Let's discuss X TV show" - great! I love X tv show. But post it in chat or Telly Addicts FFS. The only thing you're being unreasonable about is posting it in here.

"Please diagnose a medical condition" (see also: "am I pregnant?") - why the hell are you asking people on the internet? Call a professional who can actually help! Or pee on a stick (delete as appropriate).

"To tell you about the great thing I discovered" - what do you think you're being unreasonable about, exactly?

Lots of people will come and say that the other boards don't get as much traffic, and that's true. But posting everything in AIBU isn't going to help matters is it? If you insist on posting in a board for traffic, at least do it in chat, which is the real generic catch-all board!

IANTFP (I am not the forum police Grin ), but it's something I'm noticing more and more and it's annoying. Has anyone else noticed any genres I might have missed?

Or AIBU and I should resign myself to the fact that the Am I Being Unreasonable board is now in fact the Any Old Shite board?

YANBU but I also don't go much further than AIBU many days.

Could MNHQ not move threads to the appropriate board, perhaps leaving a copy of the original post so that you could follow if you thought it looked interesting? Should I be posting this suggestion in Site Stuff (or whatever it's called)?

Nothinglefttochoose · 02/03/2019 06:09

Yes it’s so annoying.

overtheirishsea · 02/03/2019 06:36

The mods should move the threads and that would help the no traffic situation

Decormad38 · 02/03/2019 06:41

Like this thread for instance? You’re making an observation but what do you feel is unreasonable?

floribunda18 · 02/03/2019 06:45

I agree with you, but there are also far too many boards on MN, and many are superfluous, IMO, which compounds the problem.

BrizzleMint · 02/03/2019 06:48

Aibu is the only place most people read so it's understandably the case.

Princessmushroom · 02/03/2019 07:05

Have you looked at those other boards? I opened a third post in the list and it hasn’t had a post since JUNE last year.

I’m happy to scroll through AIBU for a wide variety of topics. With descriptive titles you can see what you want to read.

SnowsInWater · 02/03/2019 07:14

It doesn't bother me tbh, what gives me the shits is when people ask AIBU and fifty people say yes but the OP still argues that they are not!

Randomposter · 02/03/2019 07:23

Not sure on this.
I mean, anything can technically be an ‘aibu’
Gardening; Aibu to plant a tree that will block out neighbors light ?

Health; Aibu to be angry that I’ve been fobbed off by my gp ( insert complaint/ ailment )

S&B; Aibu to think this dress is a bit ‘young’ for me?

I only roll my eyes if I see something really ridiculous like ‘Aibu to have beans on toast for tea’ 😀

shpoot · 02/03/2019 07:25

Erm. You've just done exactly what you are moaning about.

Threads like these are just as irritating if not more irritating.

This shit should not be in AIBU

lboogy · 02/03/2019 08:32

Yabu for posting
The fact that you can't see the irony ...

Iggly · 02/03/2019 08:33

The worst are the AIBU that don't actually expect to be told yes!

The fact that you can't see the irony

thecatsthecats · 02/03/2019 10:39

I don't mind miscatagorisation, whilst MN make it so bloody hard to work out what goes where.

Worst one for me is where people know they aren't BU and just want to revel in internet people agreeing they have a CF on their hands posting gleefully overblown advice on how to put them in their place that they would never do themselves in a million years.

Samind · 02/03/2019 10:42

I think most gets posted on aibu because it gets more traffic than certain areas. idon't know if YABU or YANBU. 😂

marvellousnightforamooncup · 02/03/2019 10:45

It's the AMAs that can fuck off back to the AMA topic. Boring.

ErictheGuineaPig · 02/03/2019 10:47

Surely you should have posted this is site stuff?

I think there are just too many forums on here and as others have pointed out, not enough traffic to make it worthwhile using them.

My own personal, petty AIBU bugbear is the way people write thread titles that make no sense i.e.:

AIBU that people should use other forums and not just this one

squishee · 05/03/2019 10:41

Agreed, Eric. How can anyone "be unreasonable that..."?
