Very brief incident today that I witnessed...littlr microcosm of so much that's wrong. Two women walking across the entrance to a small, busy supermarket carpark. Car turning right into it. Had the women kept walking they would have cleared the entrance in time for the car to enter safely but without taking the slightest notice they stopped dead, right in the middle of the entrance to have a chat. The car actually waited a few seconds, blocking the queuing lane of traffic it was crossing but eventually gave a very small bip of the horn.. Not an aggressive or prolonged one, just trying to get them to notice. They did and moved but instead of an apologegic wave of the hand one of the women stuck her finger up at the driver and then mouthed abuse at her as she was parking. AIBU to think that this is just unnecessary aggravation.. They were in the wrong.. Regardless of pedestrian right of way you do have a responsibility to be aware of what's going on and even if they weren't technically wrong, they were still blocking access and could have acknowledged their error instead of being aggressive to the driver who will probably now feel a bit shit and angry for the next x minutes / hours. As I say, a small incident, no big deal, not my business but makes me think how commonplace it is now to be defensive and unpleasant instead of acknowledging that you might have done anything even a little bit inconsiderate.
