Why do they never stick to the appointment time?!?!

I've been doing my nails since I was 17. I've been to various nail shops across London, more recently I've struggled with making time to get my nails done. However whenever I do make an appointment and get there well before the time, I am never seen to on time. My appointment was today, I called to confirm this morning and saw them write my name and time down in the appointment book.

My appointment was at 12:30 and yet I'm still waiting! What's the point of making a booking if they're not going to adhere to the time. They are so bloody relaxed, he just told me to take a seat and it's been over half an hour and I'm still waiting.

Is this just a nail shop thing? Has anyone else had this?

When I am finally seen to I'm sure I wont get an apology either.

All of my nail places did that too they just want to see as many people as possible it's esp frustrating when you make an appointment for your lunch time and then have to miss it

helpmeoutout · 01/03/2019 13:21

Very frustrating! Why bother taking appointments let alone having an appointment book

after half an hour I'd be telling them that I was leaving.

helpmeoutout · 01/03/2019 13:27

@Kedgeree if I didn't desperately need my nails done I would do the same

Our local one says yes to anyone who walks in, so they're interspersed with appointments

Go to a general beauty salon rather than a nail shop, so a place that does waxing, facials etc etc. More punctual and less of the fumes!

Butterymuffin · 01/03/2019 13:31

You have to be prepared to walk out. Otherwise there's no incentive for them to do anything. Do you tip?

Tomtontom · 01/03/2019 13:33

No one desperately needs their nails done! Given how long you've been there, have you asked what the delay is? They may have forgotten about you.

I used to book my nail appointment for 9am on a Saturday as that was when suited me also 9am means I'm the first customer so no chance of not being on time. However annoyingly this was when sometimes my beautian had no child care so would be doing my nails whilst her two kids ran around the salon. I went to be feel relaxed & pampered but would leave feel agitated. It started happening nearly every time so I stopped going & now do them myself. If you're a regular client they take your custom for granted & think they can mess you around.

Use a mobile nail person

Can you learn to do your own nails? There are a couple of good YouTube channels, Nail Career Education for acrylics and The Nail Hub for gels. If you go down the gel route you'll need an LED light (eBay, and Lidl sometimes do them). You can buy gel base coat, structure, colour and top coat from Born Pretty, or Halo is a reasonably-priced UK brand that sells direct to the public. Acetone (for soaking off) is from eBay, as is isopropyl alcohol (which is what's in nail cleanser).

IDK what's good for acrylics because I use gels.

It's expensive to set up but you'll soon be saving on salon costs.

Desperately need your nails done!? Grin Just a first world problem!

quietcontentment · 01/03/2019 14:16

I had this at the hairdressers once, booked for 4pm. Come 4.45 the hairdresser said I'm sorry for the wait I'll start your shampoo in 5 minutes. I said no thanks I'm not waiting a second longer. Turns out the lady she had just finished was her sister in law who had been squeezed in and only paid a fiver!
I never went back! I love getting my hair done but the whole point in appointments is that people can fit such things in to their busy lives.
I wouldnt have minded at all 10-15 mins over my time but 45! She seemed amazed that I didnt want to stay.

CurbsideProphet · 01/03/2019 14:21

I don't mind 10-15mins delay with an apology and drink etc if I'm not in a rush. I find salons treat you better if you're a regular.

Great advice @NameChanger1985 very helpful, I'll check these out.

The reason I'm desperate is because I have a party tomorrow, and today is my only baby free afternoon and my nails were a state. They're acrylic so I have no clue how to refill them myself. If it was a case of just painting them I would of course just go home and do that if need be.

Those you who suggested just walking out, I think you're right! There are so many nail shops in the area, although I have to be honest this shop do my nails exactly how I like them. Some shops rush an acrylic job and the finishing isn't great.

Someone mentioned going to a beauty place, this place does beauty bits too hot predominantly nails

Also!! It's even worse when you ask a question and then they start speaking in their own language! Very rude.
