AIBU to ask about postpartum cervix?

Sorry, not sure where to post this!

A little bit TMI, I apologise again.

I had my daughter two weeks ago, had some internal tearing, a little on my labia. No intervention. I was brave enough to wipe myself properly today and felt my cervix (pretty sure) hanging like a badly inserted tampon! (Sorry!!!)

This is my first child and I have no friends to ask, I just want to know if this is normal or whether I will be told I need some kind of surgery for a prolapse? I’ve tried to do my pelvic floor, but it’s felt very uncomfortable to do whilst my stitches are healing.

Make an appointment to see your GP, I wouldn't go furtling around incase you introduce an infection.

I had this but it corrected itself. The GP referred me to physio who gave me some exercises to do. It fixed itself within a few months

Two weeks!!! Your not bloody wolverine, give yourself some time to heal!Grin

Congratulations on baby.

Give it a bit more time, and get going on pelvic floor exercises, and if no improvement in a few weeks go to GP, it's a lot to recover from!

iolaus · 28/02/2019 20:55

two weeks is still very early, sometimes the cervix does prolapse down inside the vagina and resolve itself as it heals.

Other times it doesn't resolve - however they will not do usually surgery to 'fix' it unless you are sure your family is complete

I'd give it six weeks and then see the GP (some don't routinely do six week checks but this is the sort of thing they were designed for)

If it's hanging outside the vagina though I would see someone sooner

GassyAss · 28/02/2019 20:56

As it's only two weeks since the birth I wouldn't worry too much at the moment. Your body needs to recover. I would mention it to your HV or MW though next time they visit.
Prolapses are pretty common but even if you saw the GP at this early stage, chances are they'd want you to wait until your body had healed.

If you mean your cervix (the top of your vagina/ enterance to the womb) go to the doctors. You could Google images of cervix and have a look with a mirror if you don’t mind looking at that kind of thing.
If everything looks weird but feels fine and it isn’t your cervix then wait it out. Everyone’s vulva looks a bit bludgened after a vaginal birth GrinBlushShock

Thanks guys. I guess I was just so concerned with birth and parenting issues for the aftermath I forgot to think/ask what the possibilities were for my vagina. Nothing is protruding outside of the area it should be contained within, but I think I’ll aim for a slightly earlier check up just to make sure 😬.

After having my third child, I felt like this. I couldn't use a tampon for months, wouldn't go in. It corrected itself and I didn't see a GP, I can't imagine why as I would now!

BarrytheFatcat · 01/03/2019 07:01

Has your midwife paid a visit yet? You could ask her to check you over when she visits.

Ploppymoodypants · 01/03/2019 07:08

I had a c section but the top of my cervix was still slightly lower until about 10 weeks after delivery. I could feel DH bumping it when we had sex so he couldn’t really enter me very far at all as it was uncomfortable. Then we tried again at 10 weeks and it was all fine. Dr said weight of baby can push things down a bit.

CatsOnCatnip · 01/03/2019 09:23

Midwives signed me off on Friday and I only noticed last night. Because of the internal stitching and swelling it wasn’t really apparent until now. I guess it would be naive to think it was going to be situated exactly where it started out after delivering and 8lbs baby.

Even if they have signed you off you can still ring them and ask - you fall under their care for 28 days regardless

Visit your go , I had this and got physio to do keep up your pelvic floor excercises until then , mine fixed itself . Avoid lifting anything heavier than your baby
