To be wary of changing energy suppliers even though I'd save loads with octopus

Just done a quick comparison and it's come. Up 300 a year cheaper with Octopus.
I've always stuck to eon trough fear of change. But my bills are up to 90 duel fuel for a small 2 bed flat.. OK so we're not really careful but working on it.
Comparison by my usage says the dd based on my readings would be 65 per month..
Please tell me I'm being an idiot and just do it.. Unless any reason I shouldn't

Why are you so loyal to one company?

Just change. People do it.

MustStopSnacking28 · 27/02/2019 19:35

Deffo do it. I do it all the time through Money Saving Expert. It’s so easy, no point sticking with the same company if you can save a lot! I haven’t used octopus but used bulb which are a smaller company and they were great so go for it.

Danni91 · 27/02/2019 19:36

Eon are upping their prices from 1st April to the maximum allowed.
Switch asap!

I just put in for a change too, am also with eon and go live with a new company mid March.

Saving £5 ish a week but that is £240 a year

gamerchick · 27/02/2019 19:37

I think that's the first time I've seen a reference to bulb without a referral link. Grin

ShoeJunkie · 27/02/2019 19:38

I switch pretty much every year. Always been pretty hassle free (usually go through comparison sites).

almostdivorcedeek · 27/02/2019 19:39

I switched to Octopus last September and so far am really pleased with them, they are so much cheaper than who I was with last, so much so I am now over £200 in credit.

I was recommended it from someone off MN and we both got £50 credited to our accounts.

JaffacakesAreCakesNotBiscuits · 27/02/2019 19:40

I don't stay through loyalty.. I've just kept the same since moving in as always fear something will go wrong.. If you knew me you'd know lucks never on my side lol..

So guess I just bite the bullet.
It also came up with EDF but think that's who I was with in my last house many yrs ago and they were appalling

I switch at the end of every contract. Only once have I stuck with the same company because they had the best tariff at the time. Its very easy. All I would say is remember you will get a final bill from eon so keep an eye out for it. You'll either owe them money (if this happens you should be able to arrange a repayment plan if you can't pay all in one go) or they could owe you money.

Mari50 · 27/02/2019 19:45

I switched to octopus in September, I’m paying exactly the same as I was, maybe the summer will be cheaper.....

Stopyourmessingaround · 27/02/2019 19:46

We switched to Octupus a year ago. They're fab - much cheaper than our old supplier (Eon) and use renewable energy so a more eco choice. They're really good on communication and every month they just send you an email to remind you to give a meter reading and that's it. Would definitely recommend them.

BobbinThreadbare123 · 27/02/2019 19:46

Octopus are pretty good. They don't spam you, unlike a lot of the other energy suppliers.

daisyjgrey · 27/02/2019 19:50

You are being unreasonable, always change providers when your tariff expires, unless the cheapest is with them. Do it through compare the market and they do it all for you.

Orangepear · 27/02/2019 19:51

I can give you an Octopus referral so you get £50 if you like! I like how they email you every month to prompt you to read the meter, keeps it all on track. The only downside for me is they don't do the warm home discount (if you get tax credits) which is annoying and something to consider as it's worth £140.

LBOCS2 · 27/02/2019 19:52

We're with bulb but I'm considering Octopus as bulb seem to want to put my monthly payment up this month even though we're at a zero balance and have just come out of the expensive part of the year Hmm.

We switch every year, pretty much. Don't forget you might be able to get cashback through Quidco or topcashback.
