My childhood is destroyed, my mind blown. Am I the only one who thought Dairylea was spelt and said Dairylee!?! DAIRYLEE is what my mum said, DAIRYLEE is what my friends said but now I find out that it was DairyleA all along! There's an A...an A! I think we need to petition immediately to have it changed to Dairylee...

Buckle up, OP. Nutella is pronounced:

New-tella

Whisky2014 · 27/02/2019 14:55

I wish no one pointed out it's still pronounced the same. Op saying "dairy lee ah" would have been much more amusing!

DontCallMeCharlotte · 27/02/2019 14:55

I thought this was going to be the bizarrest baby name thread I'd ever read. I'm a bit disappointed now.

Dearie dearie me OP. That's all I can say. have eaten some Dairylea for lunch as well.

Namechangeforthiscancershit · 27/02/2019 15:06

So basically a weird fake-cheese-awfulness is called exactly what you thought it was, but for some reason you never saw it written down? Doesn’t seem like a disaster.

thecatsthecats · 27/02/2019 15:07

Part of my surname derives from 'lea - clearance/area' too, but is spelled 'ley' - also pronounced 'lee'.

SileneOliveira · 27/02/2019 15:18

Can you not read?

MyDcAreMarvel · 27/02/2019 15:20

Lea is pronounced Lee!

Dahlietta · 27/02/2019 15:20

Did your mum never let you unwrap one yourself...?

HoppityFrog3 · 27/02/2019 15:23

COURSE it isn't 'dairylee' and it never has been!

No, it shouldn't change PMSL! Grin

HankNPat · 27/02/2019 15:56

This will blow your mind, sapientia99. DP, who was brought up in Canada calls Dairylea Cheez Whiz - we both know what he means Grin Grin

tiredandcold · 27/02/2019 16:28

We call it durrylee

PurpleDaisies · 27/02/2019 16:31

My year 1s could tell you those are both acceptable ways of spelling the “ee” sound.

bumblenbean · 27/02/2019 16:41

Think it’s safe to say it’s just you OP Grin

*Buckle up, OP. Nutella is pronounced:

New-tella*

Surely not? It's pronounced Nut-Ella.

PotholePalace · 27/02/2019 16:49

Perhaps your mum bought a cheap knock off brand? From Tesc-oh?

secretmeetingsundertrees · 27/02/2019 16:49

probably only dairylee-ah to Mark E Smith...

ChodeofChodeHall · 27/02/2019 16:49

Noo-tella, not New-tella or Nut-ella

HankNPat · 27/02/2019 16:50

I've heard Australians pronounce it new-tella, versus our nut-ella in the UK.

MissionItsPossible · 27/02/2019 16:54

Buckle up, OP. Nutella is pronounced:

New-tella

Not in this advert it isn't.

HankNPat · 27/02/2019 16:57

"Noo-tella, not New-tella or Nut-ella"

Why not pronounce it nut-ella when it's got, erm, nuts in it - hence its name?!

SparkiePolastri · 27/02/2019 16:59

Why would people petition to spell it strangely?

BertieBotts · 27/02/2019 17:02

It's nutella in British English. Noo-tella in non English speaking countries where the word for nut is something different, and also America because apparently the Americans copy the German, or something?
