to think there must be something I can do about my irregular periods?

I'm only 4 months PP, but ever since my lochia stopped, I've bled on and off, for 1-2 days out of every week since giving birth. It's awful, I constantly feel like I have PMS. I would rather my periods just came back normally. It's completely exhausting and I never know when the bleeding is going to start. I'm ebf and didn't expect to bleed like this.

Has anyone else experienced similar? AIBU in thinking there must be something I can do? 😥

Have you using hormonal contraception?

Cinnacat · 27/02/2019 10:07

@dementedpixie I've never used hormonal contraception, no.

I would maybe see your gp then. What contraception are you using (if any)?

Cinnacat · 27/02/2019 10:09

@dementedpixie I'm not using any. I'm a single mum sadly so no sex for me!

I'd see your GP OP! Four months is a long time to still be bleeding, even PP (in my limited knowledge at least). Get checked out :) Your doctor can also prescribe you a contraceptive pill that's safe for breastfeeding which should regulate your periods (if this is in fact period). Getting checked out will ease your mind anyway :)

Yes, I had this after my 3rd (& final) dc. It lasted a year and over that time I had everything checked over ie smear test etc just in case and after no cause was found had a Mirena coil inserted. The mirena eventually meant I only had about two very minor periods a year. I came off it a few years later and my periods have returned to normal. If you’re planning more dcs v soon then maybe not an option but otherwise the coil is a good option.

BLIMEY! A year?! Horror! You poor thing.

Cinnacat · 27/02/2019 10:16

Never thought about the coil but will definitely look in to it! Not sure about the pill. I've got to 28 without it and was hoping to never have to take it as I don't like the idea of the hormones.

The mirena coil has hormones too. That's what helps to stop the bleeding

NotANotMan · 27/02/2019 10:18

The mirena coil is very low dose and very effective to deal with heavy/prolonged periods.
