He has none of the above. He parks in the street. He hasn't driven it since he was caught in October for driving without all three, as well as no licence (banned for speeding). Still paying fines for all of those.

He says no one can make him do any of the above and he can't afford to, so doesn't care.

I guess it's causing no one any harm, but it is still illegal...am I just being a bitch?

He didn't pay it for the ten months he was using the roads without tax or MOT and eventually no license or insurance either!

Did you report him then?

Seriously what is the point of this thread?
He is breaking the law. Report or dont.

springwashing · 26/02/2019 21:04

Couldn't you say that about every thread on Mumsnet? The whole point is that people discuss things. No need to be so rude, if you don't like a thread, don't comment.

What's to discuss.
You dont like him.
He is breaking the law.
You want to report him but need the validation of strangers to do so....for some reason.

Gingerkittykat · 26/02/2019 21:11

I'm surprised the DVLA have not come and clamped it already if it has been untaxed for that length of time.

I live in a rough area and they periodically come round and clamp a bunch of cars, clamp is not taken off until fine paid and car taxed.

Something sounds fishy though, if caught driving without insurance the car is impounded and not given back until the fine paid and proof of insurance shown. Also how many points would he get for all of those offences? Normally 6 for no insurance so if added to a current ban it's likely he would have no license for a long time.

CoachBombay · 26/02/2019 21:13

Report him if you want to, don't report him if you feel you don't want to. It's up to you really 🤷

Personally I wouldn't report him if it was parked up, wasn't being driven and just sat stationary on the road, as it's doing no harm to anyone else at this point, but that's just me.

springwashing · 26/02/2019 21:15

He was banned for 12 months, plus fined. He got his mate insured so he could collect it when it was impounded.

I thought they came and checked too...maybe it's either because it's a small street or because he's driving it when they try?

No I would not report him

mummabubs · 26/02/2019 21:21

I'd report it personally, ignore others who say not to. At the end of the day they're not above the law and it's all protection- MOTs ensure the car is safe and insurance keeps the rest of the public safe when idiots like your relative decide it's ok to drive with no licence. YANBU OP x

JassyRadlett · 26/02/2019 21:23

Glad you're not a relative of mine! You're out of line.

Why, is your untaxed and uninsured car out on the street too?

Oakenbeach · 26/02/2019 21:24

Personally I wouldn't report him if it was parked up, wasn't being driven and just sat stationary on the road, as it's doing no harm to anyone else at this point, but that's just me.

Ditto.... To do otherwise is just spiteful in my opinion. If he was driving it, that might be different. Yes, I know he should have a SORN, but is that worth reporting over?

Drogosnextwife · 26/02/2019 21:29

him and find out he ain't got no insurance?

Well I don't think k I would be too worried, as this would mean he probably had insurance.

TalkinPeece · 26/02/2019 21:32

Just deal with it and leave the DVLA to sort

juls1888 · 26/02/2019 21:44

IME they do nothing even when you report it. My neighbour has driven with no MOT and tax for 8 months and despite lots of people reporting it, absolutely nothing is done.

AnnieHawk · 26/02/2019 22:05

Jesus, how many more times? If it is on the street it cannot be subject to a SORN. If you SORN a vehicle it must be off the public highway. Like I said, there's a big clue in the name - Statutory OFF ROAD Notification. OFF ROAD.

@CosmicCanary I want them "done" too, to use your quaint expression. They are breaking all sorts of laws and deserve to have the book thrown at them. I'd be willing to bet that whichever idiot this is is still driving, untaxed, uninsured and in a car that hasn't been checked for safety.
I'd ban him for life.
