Jubilee Line 0730

I am starting a new job on Monday morning and I have to be there early. I have a couple of route options. One is the 26 bus from Waterloo to shoreditch and the other is the jubilee line and then either northern line to old street or the overground to shoreditch. I don't work in London at the moment and I don't live in London.

How busy is the jubilee line at 0730? Is that early enough that I will miss the rush hour? Or should I stick to the bus??? I can't really do a dummy run.

From Waterloo, walk over Westminster Bridge to Westminster (5 mins), get Circle Line to Aldgate or Liverpool St (depending on which one is nearer to the part of Shoreditch you need) and walk from there. (5 mins)

I'd get the Waterloo and city line to bank and pick up the 26 or 8 bus from bank to shoreditch.

The jubilee line is heaving at 7:30

Rather than travel into waterloo and out again, have you looked at getting a train that links into somewhere like croydon, crystal palace or new cross, or clapham junction? Then you can overground straight round to shoreditch and miss out central london.

This is really good advice. Many trains from south will stop at clapham junction. The overground line is a much nicer line than the underground.

I also think that the tube will be heaving at that time. I used to get on it at Waterloo and it was rammed. I hate feeling hot and dirty 15 mins after coming out of the shower and would do anything to avoid busy airless tube trains.

You should definitely get the Citimapper app. It updates so if there are delays you can look at other options.

SnowyDaze · 27/02/2019 20:12

Use CityMapper app to plan your journey. It’s very accurate

Asked my OH, he's a driver on the underground, this was his answer

Does your train into Waterloo stop at Balham or the Elephant, where you could pick up the Bank branch of the Northern Line and avoid changing? Or Brixton or Vauxhall and change at Stockwell?

cantbeb0thered · 27/02/2019 20:17

It is a really good idea. I have looked and I can get off st Clapham junction and get to shoreditch in 35 mins. I think I will try that.

That sounds like a great option. The only thing to be aware of is that the overground only goes every 15 minutes usually (maybe more often at rush hour); factor an extra 15 minute delay into your journey time where you sit calmly reading your book on the overground and it'll be a great route.

Have a fabulous first week!

Genius! I have just switched trains in Clapham Junction. This was so clever 😂 normally won't need to be so early but it had worked really well today.
