Well in that you'd be a bit stuffed without chemicals, yes, they are, as you'd have no body and seeds wouldn't exist.

Sulphur, Arsenic, Mercury and Lead are elements that have historically been used as pesticides, all can be dangerous to health. One of the reasons why people have synthesised pesticides is to reduce their impact on the health of untargeted species, such as humans.
