Aibu about dog?

So I'm currently pregnant and worrying about everything (previous mcs and just generally an anxious person).

Last night our dog (beagle 16 months) hurt his foot on a walk. We weren't sure what he had done but it was bleeding quite a lot. Took him to the vets today and they have cleaned it up and given him a collar to stop him licking it. They have said it looks okay but he needs a check up in a week and if it hasn't started to heal he will need a wound cleaning and stitching under GA.

Before we went to the vets dog was happy as Larry bouncing about 🙄.

Since we got home he has become very lethargic (hasn't had any sedation etc) and is sitting under the stairs alone. For context he never wants to be alone and always wants to be in the sitting room or kitchen with us. I'm quite worried about him. I know I'm probably being overly anxious and hormonal but he is literally what got me through our miscarriages and i would be devestated if something happened to him.

dh thinks he is just in a huff at being prodded by the vet (it's true he is not a vet fan after his neutering 🤦🏻‍♀️) and that we have put a big cone collar on him.

Aibu to ring the vets and just check ? Or should I wait it out seeing as we were only there an hour ago? He has antibiotics to take tonight but she said wait until his evening meal.

See if you can get a collar rather than a cone. You’d be miserable with a cone around your head

x2boys · 25/02/2019 18:15

Yes the sniffing!and chewing of shoes if she can get hold of themHmm

Worriedallthebloodytime · 25/02/2019 18:18

@WiddlinDiddlin I've got an inflatable collar coming tomorrow so hopefully that will help :-) I think it's just that he can't get comfy :( once he has gone to sleep I'll take it off but for now I know he will be chewing his foot as soon as I do 🤦🏻‍♀️

@ChoudeBruxelles yes I'd imagine so!

@x2boys Hugo once chewed my husbands brand new custom made Nike shoes... he hasn't left things lying around since 😂

My cat is currently sulking in her cone-of-shame after being neutered. The night she took it off, she was back to her usual happy, bouncy, wake up the house ways. It’s back on now, she hates it (and all of us).

x2boys · 25/02/2019 18:20

Oh dear Op that made me Grin

ItsABeautifulDayNow · 25/02/2019 18:21

Cone of Shame poor little chap.

He's obviously got a lovely owner though and he'll get used to it in a couple of days defo!

Worriedallthebloodytime · 25/02/2019 18:21

@DoneLikeAKipper we got Hugo a bodysuit and he loved it haha he actually cried when we took it off!

@ItsABeautifulDayNow ah thank you :-) we try our best :-) dogs are so grateful for everything you do for them so I always feel guilty if we don't give him the best! 🙈 I'm the type who arranges the dog walker if I have to pop out for an hour 🙈🙈🙈

If I ever go away anywhere my bunny goes to the Bunnery and I get pictures of her each day (I don't ask for these but they do it for all their "guests") so I know she's having a lovely time! Never thought I'd have need of an actual bunny hotel but she's such a part of the family now, I bloody love her!

CaseofEllen · 25/02/2019 18:26

Poor doggy Sad must be upsetting for you too OP. I worry about my dog all the time, even when I know there's nothing wrong! Hope yours is back to their normal self soon xx

Tara336 · 25/02/2019 18:28

From memory when my dog had antibiotics he was a bit sleepy and miserable (don’t think they agreed with him but nothing does) he’s not keen on the cone but will trot about with it on. If your still worried in the morning give the vet a call to set your mind at rest.

Worriedallthebloodytime · 25/02/2019 18:28

@ItsABeautifulDayNow it's nice knowing they are okay though isn't it! When Hugo goes to doggy daycare they send us videos and it makes me feel less guilty 😂🙈 dh wants to go away abroad this year but I darent leave him 🤦🏻‍♀️

Fellow beagle owner here! They are stroppy little things when they want to be. It’s the cone for sure. I have two beagles and one of them literally stands still like a statue when she’s needed the cone 😂 she hates it!

NutElla5x · 25/02/2019 18:42

Aww bless him. He doesn't know what he's done to have basically had some of his senses/freedom taken away from him. Just give him as much love and reassurance as you can and I'm sure he'll soon get used to his wee new way of life until he's all healed again.

Elasticizer · 25/02/2019 18:58

Beagles are drama queens! Almost definitely the cone, here a picture of my own stubborn boy to cheer you up 😘

Those great plastic cones are horrible and make animals utterly miserable. There are many kinder alternatives.
Cats don’t usually get them put on after spaying, I’d take it off and only use if cat is trying to remove stitches. For dogs a bodysuit is good but obviously no good for a sore paw. Use a sock.
