To ask for period pain travel advice?

Posted here for traffic.

Every few months or so, I have the worst period pain imaginable. Think doubled over on the floor crying like a baby levels of pain, which tends to last for two days in my experience.

Today is one of these days. I'm currently pretty okay thanks to a high dose prescription painkillers. But I've one pill left and the night ahead of me.

What worried me more is that I'm meant to be on a 7am flight for work tomorrow morning. I've not managed to pack my bag or book my cab yet, as the painkillers I'm on make me so drowsy and tired. I've no chance to get my prescription refilled before flying and I'm absolutely dreading tomorrow - both because I'll be in excruciating pain and because I'm really afraid of vomiting in a crucial meeting.

Calling in sick is sadly absolutely not an option. Too much at stake.

Anyone out there with any experience and, more importantly, emergency survival tips?

Bit of a weird one, but I realised that ranitidine (zantac) actually helped me with bad period pains. I was taking it for something else and noticed that it helped. It's an H2 histamine blocker and there are apparently H2 histamine receptors in the uterus. Might be worth a try.

A Holland and Barratt lady recommended raspberry leaf supplement to me for my daughter. Certainly seems to make a difference.

Sorry if this is too late, but I have endo and had to fly on first day of period in Jan - we got a mini TENS machine in Boots which is an absolute life saver, and I used it throughout the flight. Also second heat patches - in your hotel room you can also soak a small towel in boiling water and wrap in several carrier bags and then a couple of pillow cases and use as a makeshift hot water bottle. Painkiller wise, prescription codeine gets me through, or I take paracetamol and ibruprofen both with codeine (which is an OD technically but I am quite big Blush). Also have read that starting ibruprofen throughout the day before you are expecting pain helps, as it stops the prostaglandins (sp) having the same impact. Good luck Flowers

Vote from me for heat pads. Also, not at same time, but Tiger Balm is good too. Just don't get it near / on your vulva! (My period pain is above the bikini line, which is a bit close!)
