To book a wedding venue without a proper dance floor?

We found our perfect venue yesterday. In budget, available when we need it, beautiful and exactly what we need in every way - except the reception room doesn't have a dance floor.

I think the space will be big enough for people to have a dance but pretty sure it won't be roomy enough for a ceilidh for 55 adults.

This isn't a huge problem in itself but I'm worried about the guests enjoying themselves. We wouldn't hesitate to book if it wasn't for being unsure what to do in the evening. The most comparable venue on our list is £20K more and we really can't afford that, especially just for the sake of a few dances.

Would you book a wedding venue without a dance floor? Or if you've been to a wedding without much dancing what other entertainment was provided?

Please help us decide whether to go ahead and confirm tomorrow Confused

I used to be an event coordinator and would frequently source dance floors for couples.

At my own wedding, we hired a white LED dance floor to go on top of the venues wooden flooring. It came as a package with fairy light canape, mood lighting and photo booth. It looked lovely.

Just realised you meant a band for the ceilidh Fantababy Blush I would have loved a ceilidh band but venues we like that would fit one aren't in our budget.

That does sound lovely SuziQ10 The floor is carpeted so I'll need to check if they'll let us put anything down on it.

We got married 2 years ago. Some of my best memories of the day were when everyone, All my friends and family, were up and dancing and singing together. It reduced me to tears of happiness (no one else saw me look like a loon) but it was the best thing to see and worth every penny.

We aren't Scottish but had a fiddle player/guitarist/singer group who played folk tunes then the singer called some ceilidh dances for us. Most of my 80 guests got up to dance at some point, it was brilliant!

Yy to a hired dance floor. I've noticed a lot of venues use temporary dance floors anyway, to give them more flexibility in arranging the room.
