Celebs in fewer clothes over time

I have been watching 'back in time for school 'and taken an interest in the changes through time and even became nostalgic of 80s and 90s school time.

However also looking at a magazine cover from my childhood I was drawn to the fact that Kylie is fully clothed and actually wears fewer clothes now later in life. Little mix at the brits also wearing little clothes.

Do you think celebs wearing as many clothes as Kylie's outfit would sell a magazine today?

I know times change for good and bad but in this case not for the better or am I wrong?

I'd guess that issue is from 1988 going off the other names on the cover

showerpower · 23/02/2019 22:58

Yep December 1988 when they did the 'Especially for you' duet.

The lack of clothing on females compared to males at the same occasion always annoys me - why do women run in bras and knickers for instance! (Even at parkrun this morning ) why do we freeze at formal functions with a little black dress and silk wrap when men are in dinner suits, then there's the absurdity of balancing on spikes aka heels! Male rappers in baggy clothes with skimpily clad females are by pet peeve.

Seniorcitizen1 · 23/02/2019 23:32

The less talent they have the fewer clothes they wear

Thanks for getting me to Google.....

A Jackie (retrospective, best bits) album had a pic from the 1970s of Showaddywaddy topless.

I'm trying to work out how that fits the various theories on this thread

(can't find the pic online, and goodness only knows what sorts of ads I'll be served up after the search terms I used in trying!)

RedHatsDoNotSuitMe · 23/02/2019 23:51

but sex sells.

Look at all those threads on Relationships where the DH/DP uses porn (and all their partners saying 'and so do I')

AllPizzasGreatAndSmall · 23/02/2019 23:54

Yes, I remember Bananarama coming on the scene and me and my friends dressed like them and they just seemed cool and fun, they didn't have to wear barely any clothes and act sexy.

Siameasy · 24/02/2019 00:04

I think about this a lot and thoroughly agree with IndianaMoleWoman.
I recently watched videos of Popstars when Hear’say were formed. Things seemed really innocent in those days. I miss how “normal” women and girls used to look back then. Nowadays they all look the same-like a Kardashian/blow up doll. It’s boring.

BadLad · 24/02/2019 02:49

@SexNotJenga have you seen a recent performance by Tiffany? She looks very physically strong in middle age.

HelloDarlin · 24/02/2019 02:57

I vividly remember the first time I saw Kylie’s “I Should Be So Lucky” video. She had all of these different outfits on & I loved her instantly!

Quintella · 24/02/2019 02:59

Who knew Tiffany would still be singing that song over 30 (!) years later.

MaggieAndHopey · 24/02/2019 05:07

Every time I see Kylie I'm reminded of my obnoxious brother in law and his comment that she was a total 'throw-around'. Bleurgh.

Catquest1 · 24/02/2019 06:06

elQuintoConyo

I think mine was this one. Or similar.

Catquest1 · 24/02/2019 06:07

Oh didnt attach. Drat

Beachbooty · 24/02/2019 07:56

I love Kim Wilde and her video for keep me hanging on is one of my favourites. She is totally and utterly dressed in it and looks as sexy as hell.

Bezalelle · 24/02/2019 08:06

Empowerment doesn't come with taking off your clothes.

INoahGuy · 24/02/2019 08:11

Is it partly record company marketing? Take That spent most of their early days looking like male strippers. That “Do What You Like” video was...interesting.

SexNotJenga · 24/02/2019 08:18

Loved that BadLad! Thank you!

MrsJayy · 24/02/2019 08:24

I think you are right but back then it was all girl next door for kylie and i don't think it is empowering for little mix to be wearing litte more than pants as a costume but that is just me . I am agog at some of the women presenters clothes on the likes of BGT the dresses are more split than dress !

AngeloMysterioso · 24/02/2019 08:32

It always pisses me off that female gymnasts have to wear those tiny little leotards with half the arses on show while the men can wear shorts or trousers. And the women have to do all that ridiculous dancing with their floor routines where men can just get on with performing the skills.
