To ask for you to help me become an accountant?

Hi all, I'd like to become an accountant. I would really appreciate some help & advice.

I love numbers and always have so I've decided to retrain. Here are some questions I have. I'd be so grateful if you could help with any of these.

Which course would be best for me to complete?
Is it possibly to qualify without actually working in accountancy, or do you need the work experience to qualify?
What is likely to be the salary of a qualified accountant?

Thanks so much for your help.

However, I will just point out that accountancy/bookkeeping has little to do with numbers, lots to do with logic, in my experience.

Depends on which branch. Management accounting is very much all about numbers when you spend your day doing job costing, pricing, forecasting and budgeting. As is basic book-keeping.

I do agree that accounts preparation is more about logic and tax is more about the law, - in both, the "number crunching" is pretty much do automtic these days using software.

ImPeppaPig you don't need a degree to apply for the Civil Service Fast Stream if you already work there - hence my suggestion to look for an admin job, then apply for Fast Stream as an existing employee.

Would definately start at home with AAT - maybe you could go in at a higher level of AAT because of your maths - you can self study at home which definately beats doing nothing and shows commitment. It wouldn't be time wasted.

Thought I'd report back. I've signed up to study AAT so wheels are in motion 😃

I think my goal at the minute would be to find a part time job to build experience and then try to set up on my own as a self employed bookkeeper/accounting technician once I have completed AAT level 4 (starting at Level 2). Then a couple of years later, when DC are a little less dependent on me, apply for jobs where I can study to become fully qualified.

Does this sound like a realistic plan?

Thanks.
