Either you mean shouldn't or you should tell her yourself if you are that mean.

SilverySurfer · 23/02/2019 02:04

Another fascinating, unintelligible thread Hmm

Lovingbenidorm · 23/02/2019 02:11

Why are we still posting.

Chickaletta16 · 23/02/2019 02:13

Errrrmmmm...I'm an interior designer and it's a very real job !! I redesign homes for rich clients and also show homes !! It pays very well too !!

Lovingbenidorm · 23/02/2019 02:14

What an absolute pile of shite
It didn’t even turn out to be a pervert who had a thing about interior design 🙄

mokapot · 23/02/2019 02:15

Start again op, what sentence were you trying to type?

totallyfrusted · 23/02/2019 08:38

Well I’m an interior designer and it’s certainly felt like a proper job for the past 20 years.

I’ve travelled the world, seen amazing things and it’s even paid the mortgage....

thecatsthecats · 23/02/2019 10:57

I wanted to be an interior designer aged 11.

I had a big book of paint samples and furniture pictures from catalogues.

DolorestheNewt · 23/02/2019 11:33

Presumably he has a clear idea of what does constitute a proper job? What might that be?

CostanzaG · 23/02/2019 11:35

Of course it's a proper job. My university offers a degree in it and it looks absolutely fantastic. They do many of the same elements of the architecture degree but get to be a bit more artistic.

BrizzleMint · 23/02/2019 11:38

My university offers a degree in it and it looks absolutely fantastic.

There was somebody on TV the other day doing a degree in interior design, it seems like an awful waste of money. 60k of debt to be an interior designer?!

CostanzaG · 23/02/2019 11:44

Are you being deliberately goady bizzle? Or just rude and misinformed?

Loopytiles · 23/02/2019 11:48

It was rude to suggest it is not a “proper job” but it’s not U to give DC information that in many fields, eg sport, acting, TV presenting, interior design, far more people would like to earn money from them than can actually do so.

NunoGoncalves · 23/02/2019 11:51

Really? You're grouping interior design in with professional actors, presenters and athletes in terms of achievable careers??

formerbabe · 23/02/2019 11:51

For some it is a real job of course.

It's also a pretend job for women with rich husbands.

CostanzaG · 23/02/2019 11:54

Have you got any evidence for that loopy ?

Some people are making some very broad generalisations about career they know very little about.

katseyes7 · 23/02/2019 11:56

Tell your DH two words.
Kelly. Hoppen.
She seems to have done quite well at it.

flirtygirl · 23/02/2019 11:59

I'm trained in interior design but in some areas it is very hard to make a career out of it. In my old area, I never really tried but if I ever move to an upwardly mobile or affluent area, ie one with more disposable income and who are more likely to buy in services then absolutely.

To be successful you have to know your market and demographic and be able to target it effectively with your services, at a price point that means you can pay your bills and make a living.

As with any career I suppose.

formerbabe · 23/02/2019 12:01

I'd imagine it's like photography in that there's more people who want to do it as a career than people who need their services and skills.

flirtygirl · 23/02/2019 12:01

I also did law but was too tired of it to make a career in it. I came to the decision at 27 or 28 that I wanted to be a house wife.

So I don't know if I quashed my ambitions, all I know is that my get up and go, got up and went.

CostanzaG · 23/02/2019 12:03

People also have a very narrow view of interior design and think it's just decorating rich people's houses.

The students studying at my uni have placements which include working in shopping centres, pubs, restaurants, social spaces and even the NHS.
