I live in a residential street, and I am disabled so the council have put a line thing outside my gate, so no one parks there or opposite.
I can't get in my drive, for the past 2 hours, I have a wheelchair so usually reverse out of my car in my wheelchair (specially adapted).
I've beeped, beeped but everyone is acting like its not their car what can I do?
I need to turn into the drive, and risk banging into the said parked cars.
Tried to get in about 10 times but theres just no way
N is neighbours drive who i think the cars are their guests so they could park there

Good luck getting the situation sorted. I agree with other posters, look into having your drive way extended if possible (take wall or fence down?) switch off.now and have a good sleep x

Just knock and ask them to move ? Parking further away requires no more effort. Sorry your in pain op

IHeartMarmiteToast · 22/02/2019 22:29

Ooooop sorry! As you were

To be honest I have never throught this marking on the road meant you can’t park opposite. It’s probable that the people think they are parked legally and have no idea why you are beeping.

Maybe the council didn’t explain the road marking properly to you when they painted it. Even the ones upside schools allow parking opposite.

Strictly speaking you were the one in the wrong for beeping when stationary and not in any danger - however I understand you were in api. And frustrated.

GET the parking restrictions clarified and speak to your neighbours. I’m not sure they are actually in the wrong, but if your access problems are explained hopefully they will try to around inconveniencing you.

There's no law against parking on the opposite side of the road unless they have painted double yellow lines. Not blocking your drive is one thing but expecting people not to park opposite seems a bit unreasonable. I have s large car and with a big of manoeuvring ring I can reverse into most gaps.

Dippypippy1980 · 22/02/2019 22:40

Sorry - cross posted !! Glad it was sorted and hope you are feeling a bit more comfortable.

I think the street needs double yellows if it is so narrow that parking means you can’t acces your driveways.

Pinkyyy · 22/02/2019 22:48

I'm glad its all sorted for you OP. I do have to say though, a street where people sit in their cars and beep to get people to move, sounds like a nightmare to me.

Defiantly clarify with your council about the markings. I couldn't find a council that says it bans parking opposite H bars. Most show similar to this and explicitly say "Parking very close to a dropped kerb or opposite is not illegal even if it restricts or impedes access."

Very lucky that they hadn't had a drink and could move the cars.

It doesn't sound illegal and the visitors might not have realised how they impede your access, so I think all you can do is talk to a few neighbours and explain. Most people are decent, despite what we read on MN as it's no story when they are so we don't hear about 99% that are kind and understanding.

If I was your opposite N &/ NDNs and you'd told me, I'd look out for you and find out who it was to ask to move. I'm glad your NDN did that. It must be terribly wearing for you, with everything else that is going on.
