House alarm going off and owners on holiday

So there is a house a few doors down that is for sale.
The alarm has been going off for 24hrs (so far).
it caused major sleep disruption in our house last night and looks like it’s set to happen again tonight,

I spoke to the agent this morning who said the owner is on holiday, they have a contact email for them and would email them about it.

The alarm is still going off!

AIBU to get a alarm company to sort it?
What else can I do?
The agent won’t divulge how long they are away for or give me any details. The owners keep themselves to themselves.

HELP Please

I'd call the police. It's noise disruption and as a concerned neighbour you could be worried about someone stealing stuff.

Council I believe. Environmental health unless there is a dedicated noise abatement department (I know some London boroughs have those)

LeSquigh · 21/02/2019 17:53

Not the police. Environmental Health for noise pollution.

This happened to me once, the empty flat backing on to mine had an alarm going for over 36 hours. It was hell. I contacted the council re noise pollution after about 12 hours and they then did the work to find out who owned it and the landlord (not local) came as soon as they could.
Started going off again the next day for 18 hours before the landlord came back again. It was awful so you have my sympathy.

Not sure if that’s helpful because you know the owners but could be worth a try anyway. Not sure how far their powers go..

ScarletBitch · 21/02/2019 17:55

Surely you should be ringing the Police???

M0reGinPlease · 21/02/2019 18:05

We had this recently. I rang the police non emergency number and they came and confirmed the house wasn't being broken into. They couldn't stop the alarm though.

Talulahbeige · 21/02/2019 18:23

Police won’t do a thing, especially given our local top policeman lives next door to the alarm going off.

Thank you hazeydays,

I'd see if I could find out which alarm company it is and contact them to see if there's anything they can do. Then I'd contact the council if there's noise abatement in your area.

Ring 999 and say you think 2 young men are currently in the act of burglarising the house.

Ring 999 and say you think 2 young men are currently in the act of burglarising the house

What fantastic advice 🙄
Apart from tying up a 999 line what do you think that'll achieve? The police will come out see there's no one at the house no signs of a break in and leave. The alarm will still be ringing. Nothing will have been achieved.

What ridiculous advice

IWantChocolates · 21/02/2019 19:26

999? So waste Police resources to an alarm that's been going off all day/night? What do you expect them to do?
