Mum/Mom

I often see posts on here where people use 'Mom' instead of 'Mum'. I always thought Mom was just an American thing and I know some Americans use these boards. However I see it often enough to wonder if there's parts of the UK that use Mom not Mum and it's not just the odd American on here? I know that 'Mam' is a thing in other parts of the UK, but I had no idea 'Mom' was. Can someone please enlighten me?

Yep, you rumbled me, I was brought up in Solihull..... My mother will not countenance being addressed as Mom.......

I'm South Birmingham and DH is north east Birmingham, with a Solihull postcode dontcha know and he sounds so much more brummie than me and all of his family

They all still say mom though. Just the accent is much stronger from his way.
And they really roll their rrrrrrs. Which drives me nuts.

I've moved around a bit - in my experience, it's Mum in Leicester and Coventry, Mom in Stafford, Rugeley, Birmingham, Wolverhampton.

I grew up not far from Bartley Green. Moved now but still travel through their daily on the way to work.

I’m Stafford/Wolverhampton way and I’m a Mom.

Black Country wench here 😉 I’m a mom and I have a mom and she had a mom.

My 95 year old grand aunt says Mom when talking about her long dead mother , as did her siblings.
She's from the south west of Ireland.

I tried being a North Birmingham 'Mum'.

But I lost the battle and I am indeed MOMMY.

I'm from near Birmingham and we say mom but spell it mum still.

Same for me. I now live in the ne and it is Mam here, mil calls me that but my children say Mom.

To say Mum feels really forced.

North East here so Mam or Mammy, although DS is just starting to talk and says Mama and Dada which is lovely.

Staffordshire here and it's always been Mum

I lived in Solihull from the ages of 11-18 and never knew anyone say or write Mom.

First I saw it in UK was a school friend who called herself Mommy on FB. Then I started hearing about it being a general Brummie thing. Definitely not B91 or B93 though!

Nobody said it matters and I've never seen it in here. If it is old news, find a more interesting thread.

I'm interested it is a WM one. I'm from the WM and never heard it.

The Midlands is a pretty big and diverse area. Plenty of us here say 'Mum', but yes, some say 'Mom'.

Wales here it's "Mam" or "Mami" but some say "Mum" or "Mummy" what's worse here is the grandparents terms lol

Parts of Ireland. ... more so in the west and sounds similar to the Irish word for it
