to be at a complete loss for what to buy MIL for 65th birthday?

Can't think of anything to buy MIL as a 65th birthday present?

I thought about organising her a beautiful cake, but she's taking us all away for the weekend so I wont be able to sort from where we are (remote location).

FIL suggested salon vouchers for facials, massage etc but we're doing a spa day with treatments as part of her birthday trip. Seems a bit silly to gift her vouchers for treatments on the day she'll have just had 2 treatments.

I suggested Jo Malone perfume but DH said this was too expensive.

Any suggestions? Ideally under £60 or so.

Thanks

I bought a colleague of mine cream silk French knickers and a camisole for her 60th birthday. This sort of thing but cream www.marksandspencer.com/silk-and-lace-camisole-set-with-french-knickers/p/dsd03d20d62a20ff3435cf588dba07a03e?prevPage=srp

I agree with a david Austin rose! Just perfect and will last

Another vote for magazine subscription.
Or do Hotel Chocolat still do their subscription equivalent? (I'd love a fancy choc box dropping in via the mail every month for a few months!)
Amazon voucher? Does she have a kindle?

I think for a 65th you should all arrange a cake regardless of the present. MIL 65th recently she chose a watch she wanted. For my own mum I tend to go for experience gifts now. Theatre tickets / vouchers for restaurants / weekend stays in hotels / Spa days / gin or wine tasting / City break

Buy her an 'oven cleaning ' ....teas the best thing I received for Christmas

Lollypop701 · 21/02/2019 19:44

@olivesnutsandcheese
I would actually disown a child of mine who bought me an oven cleaning as a gift!

A few national trust places do an afternoon tea voucher. She could then have a day out and a treat at a place nearby?
Or a voucher for a craft session? I got a voucher for an afternoon of raku pottery glazing for a significant birthday. I was worried, but went to please the giver... and actually loved it. I glazed 4 pots that turned out rather well for a first go!

Nice silk scarf. Necklace/locket, something like that.

Women should have no problem buying for women, just as men should have no problem buying for men.

I always find it weird when people ask for opinions on what to buy friends or family members for their birthday. I mean if you don't know what your mother would like how the hell would we? Also I'm surprised your husband is being so mean ,especially when SHE is taking YOU out for HER birthday. Lol the poor cow.

Yes to the poster that said afternoon tea.

Afternoon tea wig her nearest and dearest, tea, cakes and Prosecco.

Are you near a Betty’s, if not a nice hotel.

Afternoon tea voucher.
Or you can get a subscription to have a cake delivered each month - sounds like a plan
Or is she a gardener ? - vouchers for her to choose something for her garden?

Alsohuman · 21/02/2019 20:24

A 30ml Jo Malone spray is £47. Job done within budget.

David Austin rose if she’s the gardening type. I'm a gardening type, and I love David Austin roses. But because I'm a gardening type my garden is full - I 'm secretly pleased if something dies because it then gives me a planting opportunity. A rose would present me with a problem.

One Hundred Stars do some really lovely dressing gowns.

If you have time to organise it (by which I mean a couple of weeks plus), what about compiling a photobook via SnapFish or similar?

We just did one for my brother's big birthday of his life so far and he was absolutely blown away. Was a lot of work, particularly with scanning the photos of the early years that weren't digital, but it was worth it when we saw his face opening it.
