Background, I'm 20, never had problems with acne or bad spots before. Lately I've noticed my skin has lots of spots underneath the skin if you know what I mean?

I stopped then restarted my BC pill a week ago so that could be why my skin has suddenly flared up, if so I hope it calms down.

I've been eating badly atm- think unhealthy junk food each evening which I'm defiantly going to stop!

I wash my hands before applying skincare and makeup (I don't wear any power or foundation- just concealer under my eyes).

It's freaking me out as I hate it!Sad

Skincare I use rn:
Neutrogena visibly clear spot proof face wash twice a day.
Olay anti ageing night cream twice a day.
Olay eye gel.

Does that mean you use the night cream in the morning? It might be a bit too heavy for your face during the day, and also means you’re not getting SPF coverage.

Personally, I use:
Cetaphil gentle cleansing wash (it’s basically just a gentle simple cleanser, nothing fancy) - a.m. and p.m.
Cetaphil SPF 30 gentle face cream - a.m.
The Ordinary Salycilic acid 2% (good for breakouts) - p.m.
The Ordinary Plant Based Squalane (hydrating oil) - p.m.

I do have a Niacinamide from The Ordinary but I stopped using it in the morning as I was getting product pilling when used with my other products (after moisturising, if I’m working or feeling organised!, I wear foundation mixed with a tinted moisturiser - happens to be a combination that works for me).

I have dry sky that is prone to breakouts. Also, after going low carb high fat I found my skin cleared up loads (but it doesn’t sound like you have really bad breakouts).

I forgot to add, I used to use a simple eye cream too but currently using Diprobase around the eyes because I’ve been having dermatitis around the eyes Confused

@bedunkalilt Ah you might be onto something there, yes I use it morning and evening as it's expensive to buy a day cream too. Maybe it's just too heavy? I'll go for just using it in the evening for now.

I use the Hawaiian tropic factor 50 face cream from April throughout summer daily but haven't thought to use one during the darker months.

That cetaphil sounds like a nice gentle wash and I'll definitely look into the oridinary acid you mentioned as I've heard good things about that!

Thanks :)

The Ordinary is really good value, not expensive and lasts for ages - you don’t need to use much. I didn’t think to explain why I use the products I use (it’s late Grin) but basically I’ve had acne since I was teen (note: it’s been some time since I was a teen...) and over the years, I’ve found simple products to be less irritating and more effective. Hence the Cetaphil wash and day cream, and I use the salicylic specifically because I have breakouts regularly and it helps with keeping them at bay. I found the various face washes marketed at ‘problem skin’ ultimately would cause other problems, like dryness.

I know what you mean on day cream meaning spending more up front, but ultimately you’re using the night cream twice as fact than if you just used it once a day so your overall outlay would probably be the same. SPF in a day cream is always a good thing, I’ve been told over the years anyway! Think the Cetaphil might actually be SPF 50. I usually stock up a couple of things on Boots 3 for 2.

As bed said, stop using the night cream. It will give you spots.

Eat veg. Drink water. Sleep. Don't smoke. Limited alcohol and caffeine.

minieggsqueen · 21/02/2019 01:26

@halfwitpicker I've never smoked and don't drink so that's not a culprit :)

I definitely need better quality sleep (touch of insomnia I think!) and have been really conscious of drinking more water. You're right, just loads of healthy food. I'm going dairy free too as that can contribute to breakouts.

Thanks :)
