To apply for a promotion whilst I'm on maternity

There is a position in work which I am interested in but I'm on maternity leave until the end of this year. I am thinking of applying for the position but not sure if it's a bit cheeky considering I won't be in a position to do the job until late this year. If anything I would love the chance to interview for the role so that when it comes up again which it will I can be prepared? AIBU

I am currently on maternity leave and got a promotion a few weeks ago despite not being able to start the job until September. Thereotically you can’t be discriminated against and need to be treated the same as any other applicant, though in reality it probably depends on the employer to some extent. I work for a local authority and they basically said that they are happy to wait a few months for the right applicant. Good luck!

Go
For
It

You defo won't get it if you don't go for it and since when did men ever wonder if they're being 'cheeky', which it isn't by the way! It'll be a good opportunity to show your work you're invested, committed and confident and it'll allow you to get your head back in the work space and you'll realise you can do it! X

Definately go for it.
1 you might get it
2 its good practice
3 it demonstrates your ambition and may put you in line for consoderation for future roles
4 it stops them from ‘forgetting about you’

Definitely go for it - good luck!

Do it, nobody else is going to do it for you
