...to use school holidays in notice period?

Background - work in a school, not a teacher.

If (big if) I am offered a job I have applied for, notice period of a month in current employment would be til approx 10th April.

It's the Easter holidays til Mon 22nd here...AIBU to think I could hand in notice dated last day Fri 19th?

Or would they just take one month from date of letter and no more?

Thanks.

As I understand it for non teaching staff your notice runs from the day you hand in your notice, no matter if it’s the holidays or not. It’s calendar days, not working days.

Couldn't you just put your notice in a week later? If I were running payroll I'd be working out whether you owed or were owed leave, but quite a lot of people I've come across don't do that.

You can use your holiday in your notice period, yes.

Send an email dated the day you are offered the new job. I did this (when I was a TA) in the summer hols (03/08) so never ended up going back to school in the new term.

Ps School staff don’t get annual leave (to the pp querying this).

MT2017 · 20/02/2019 22:05

I could wait til 4 weeks before 19th but that would mean they would only have two weeks before I leave, which isn't much time for them to sort this out or take over my work (not my issue I know but I did like it there).

Would like to leave on reasonable terms but don't want to not get paid for the holiday!

Its calendar days. I briefly worked in a school whilst looking for permanent properly paid work and had to give a weeks notice. I informed them a week before I officially handed in my notice in, so effectively gave notice on the Friday before half term and never went back!

I've done this as a hlta , it was fine.

YUp, I’ve used school holidays as part of my notice period

leadme No annual leave but you do get paid for your work Pro rata over the year. So if you assume sept to sept pay, by Easter you will have done 2/3 ish of your annual contract (68% at my local school) but only actually been paid for a little under 8 months out of twelve (7 months and 20 days = 63%) so the likelihood is they'll actually owe their employee additional salary when they leave.
