To ask, if you don't like texting, why not?

Just trying to understand, really. I really enjoy texting because it's a very convenient way to keep in touch with family and friends and update each other on our lives when we can't see each other physically.
But some of my friends have said that texting makes them anxious. I'm in a casual weekly get-together and once suggested that as we were out of time we could finish our rather deep conversation via our text group chat, but that suggestion wasn't very popular.
I wonder if part of the reason many people dislike texting is because it involves writing. I love writing but I know that many people don't.
Thanks.

I've had many important and meaningful conversations by text - but I'm firmly in the millennial bracket, not sure if that explains why I'm comfortable with it? Sometimes it's easier to have difficult or more emotional conversations via message, because it gives you chance to gather your thoughts, articulate better and - for cries-involuntarily-at-any-heightened-emotion people like me - it prevents the annoyance and embarrassment of not being able to control my tear ducts!

"My life is too short to be stabbing one fingered at a phone when I can type on a proper keyboard at my own leisure."

This ^^

I really CBA with texting. I use it as a means to an end, not for having a conversation.

I don't really like talking on the phone, if I send a text I have more time to think about what I want to say. I get flustered when people phone me as I don't know what they want and can't prepare my answers!
Amazingly I am an almost fully-functioning adult who was once a Receptionist!?!

I much prefer texting over talking on the phone. I always think I rather text then chat on the phone. And meet in person to chat.

LoniceraJaponica · 19/02/2019 19:02

I much prefer a 2 minute phone call than faffing around with texting.

Ragwort · 19/02/2019 19:07

^^ Texting is such a faff, fine for a quick message but I can touch type & it is so much quicker & easier to ‘write’ on a proper key board, or why not use an old fashioned land line & have a proper conversation ?
There are countless threads on here about misunderstandings via text, I want to shout ‘just talk to someone’. Grin.

GlitterPixie · 19/02/2019 19:10

I love texting I could happily never have another phone conversation again in my life

sonjadog · 19/02/2019 19:15

I get bored of texting fast because it takes so long to write anything.

SherlockSays · 19/02/2019 19:29

I wish people would text rather than call. I'll gladly look at my phone whilst it's ringing and not answer it but I'll always reply to a text.

I know. And the worst thing is when other posters construct elaborate messages for the OP to send, instead of doing the sensible thing, and telling them to pick up the fucking phone.

Another reason why it can be better to talk is that there's no risk of putting things in writing that may end up biting you on the arse later.

BarbaraofSevillle · 19/02/2019 19:31

I don't understand why people are compelled to reply to texts now.

daisypond · 19/02/2019 19:47

Texting takes too long and it's too fiddly to do punctuation properly. I would never have a conversation by text.

Shinyletsbebadguys · 19/02/2019 19:58

See I love texting because I can reply as and when I want to , I genuinely find calls so much more intrusive and if I'm honest I find the concept of calling for a chat annoying I sort if think that it can wait until I see someone

Oddly for this thread I don't know anyone who feels differently everyone in my life much prefers texting

My Dm used to call on occasion but more because I think she thought she should ...in reality we both preferred texting

I do recognise everyone is different and I don't judge others for their preference anymore than in would expect anyone to comment on my preference in real life I suspect a happy medium would be sought

I either phone or email but I'm like a sloth when I try to text, whereas on a laptop I can type around 65 words per minute.
