to throw these in the bin?

I don't like waste but I am defrosting my freezer and have found all 32 frozen bananas.

There is only so much banana bread and a banana ice cream a girl can eat.

AIBU to consider just throwing them all in the bin?

Do you have the breakfast muffin recipe?

dementedpixie · 19/02/2019 13:07

And no I don't keep bananas in the freezer

Batsypatsy · 19/02/2019 13:15

I wish you were my neighbour .. I love banana loaf!

MaiaRindell · 19/02/2019 13:17

I have loads of frozen bananas too but I cut them in chunks and freeze in a bag. I make smoothies and ice cream straight from the freezer. I hate banana bread but wish I liked it since I'm open to all other cakes and bakes and don't want to discriminate!

FrenchJunebug · 19/02/2019 13:18

Can I give you my address so that you can send me banana loaf? I love it!

MyBiscuitspread · 19/02/2019 13:25

They've been planted, harvested, shipped around the world for them to land in the bin?
Meanwhile children are dying of hunger elsewhere. What a world we live in...
Banana bread, pancakes, smoothies, ice cream... You could use them for so many things!

mychildrenarebarmy · 19/02/2019 13:26

This is the best banana loaf I’ve ever made. I use melted butter and whole milk instead of the vegan options because in our house it only needs to be egg free for allergy reasons.

Use them! This is v easy (not the healthiest one around) in a bread maker if you have one: www.kenwoodworld.com/uk/cooking-with-kenwood/recipes/bread-maker-recipes/bread-maker-bm450-recipes/banana-and-cinnamon-tea-bread

I always freeze bananas for baking etc, they are fine.
Do a bit of baking and gift it to work or neighbours.

I do find that it is easier to have a tub in the freezer and to peel the banana and break it into chunks before freezing.

Can't understand all of these people advocating food waste ShockSmile Wink

HedgehogGirl · 19/02/2019 13:47

Yes YABU! Make a giant batch of banana bread muffins to freeze for lunch boxes! I am jealous because I always under-purchase bananas... I might go home via Sainsburys and fill my backpack with bananas. Grin

KnitterOfSocks · 19/02/2019 13:54

Deffo cook with them! And next time take the skin off before freezing, makes it easier just to chuck them in the mixer straight from the freezer. I normally peel and cut into thirds and then freeze in bags if we have a bunch that goes over.

From the top of my head, whizzed up with an egg and flour makes great pancake batter (I use self raising flour and then make small puffy American style ones), whizz frozen ones with cream for almost instant ice cream, chuck into muffins.

I love bananas....

Eliza9917 · 19/02/2019 14:06

Banana fritters are also lovely.

importantkath · 19/02/2019 14:43

Fritters! I have never made those.

whatever their provenance . . . destroy them. No-one is so hungry or nutritionally challenged that they need to consume. . . those**

Hang fire on that, at least until March 29th, you may be grateful for them .....

Maelstrop · 19/02/2019 14:50

Make lots of banana bread! Don't bin them, what a chronic waste that would be.

importantkath · 19/02/2019 14:57

I haven't thrown them out. I have thawed them a little, chopped them into chunks and peeled them.

Am going to buy peanut butter to make ice cream with them! And of course, I shall make banana bread. I like this recipe, it uses four bananas.
