To wonder why people park outside my house instead of in the car park?

I live on a quiet high street...at the end where there's nothing but houses and one pub which I am next door to. People always park right in front of my living room window...when the pub car park is empty! Then they go to the pub, eat and then drive away.

Why do they do this? It only annoys me when they come out late and are loud...but curious what the thinking behind it is? They have a slightly longer walk to the pub...they're always going to the pub...they could be right outside it! The car park is massive...it's a rural town so lots of space (Australia)

Do they feel the on street parking is more overlooked so they're less likely to have their car broken into or car scratched by drunk drivers?

at night I would always rather park on the street than in a car park.

I actually think it IS laziness: they don't want the hassle of having to park in a proper space, so just pull up outside your house instead. And when leaving they are already on the street, rather than having to negotiate the car park. Sounds ridiculous, I know, but I have the same thing where I live, and I honestly think they can't be bothered with having to straighten up in a proper space, negotiating other cars … makes it difficult for me to see the road clearly when I'm trying to leave my property.

Is it possible that they don't realise there isa car park, or that the exit is dangerous to pull out of due to reduced visibility from people parking on the street ?

slipperywhensparticus · 18/02/2019 08:53

Does the car park get locked?

MyBaa · 18/02/2019 08:53

This is a very safe area...we don't really have anything like vandalism.
I suppose it could be that though....some of the people who do it are quite old...so perhaps they feel safer near a house.

Tam they do it all day too...not just at night. The pub is like an old-person's dream...lots of specials on for lunch and dinner...very gentle and quiet no loud music or anything. No young crowd either.

Piffle that sounds more like it! Probably just laziness.
The car park has no gates. It's just enclosed partially by bushes and there are two entrances....or an entrance and an exit.

It's so they just can drive straight off when they emerge from the pub, pissed.
Don't want to risk hitting another car in the car park

Are you not going to get ANY luxury benefit? Is your DH going to plough ALL of the 'mortgage' money into pension and savings, or will you at least have a little bit extra in your personal downing, or a nicer holiday or something?

I mean increasing your pension is great, but... life is for living, isn't it?!

michaelbaubles · 18/02/2019 09:50

There's a convenience store near me that's just had a nice big car park built next to it - lots of spaces, loads of room to get in and out of them, literally right next to the shop. And still people park on the road in front which is notoriously narrow, which blocks traffic all the way down and takes parking spaces from the terraced houses on the road. It's not even easier to park on the road because it takes ages to pull back out and there's always someone up your arse! It boggles the mind why they wouldn't use the car park which is easier and safer in every way.

Have to admit this was my first thought Shock

ForalltheSaints · 18/02/2019 09:54

I wonder if it is a fear of car damage.

WhatTheNightBrings · 18/02/2019 09:55

Yeah I'd guess it was so people in the pub didn't realise they were drinking and driving
