to think heel

surgery is a step (excuse pun) toe (and again lol) far. A certain ex Big Brother contestant has just undergone this surgery to make herself taller, and I don't know what it is but just the thought of it makes me feel really nauseous. I mean can you imagine the pain for one? Why would anyone, let alone a person of 'normal' height literally cripple themselves just to artificially gain a couple of inches in height? And what on earth will the feet look like? Won't they look deformed in some way? Won't they feel strange to walk on? She reckons we'll all be having it done this time next year, that'll it become the norm like boob jobs and bum implants. Isn't this particularly extreme though, when you're changing your whole stature, perhaps your shoe size and the way you walk? Is it vanity gone mad or do you think it's no different or worse than any other cosmetic surgery? I wouldn't have it done if you paid me,but would you? If it were free, would any of you mumsnetters consider going under the knife to gain a bit of height?

What does the surgery involve? I've never heard of it. Personally, no, I'd not consider it but then I'm 5'11" so don't really need it! Sounds pretty extreme though.

GirlRaisedInTheSouth · 18/02/2019 08:38

Can you explain how they are making her taller? I knew a dwarf and he had his legs broken to make him taller.

I often imagine what crazy things I would have done if I had the money. I’m not sure I would actually do them, but it’s quite entertaining to imagine, in idle moments.

I would have my feet made smaller. And my stretch marks corrected with microsurgery. And I would have my tan tattooed on, so I’d be permanently tanned.

NutElla5x · 18/02/2019 09:22

I really don't know what the surgery involves, but I'm imagining it as some kind of wedge inserted under the skin at the heel. I don't see any other way to add height really.
Yes I've heard about the breaking of the led procedure, and I can completely understand a dwarf (is that word still allowed?) wanting to be taller-for practical reasons as much as for anything else, but not a person of normal height at all.
I'm lucky in that I don't have stretch marks and I tan easily. I would totally have a tummy tuck though, as after 5 kids a love of beer mine is stretched to fuck!

A person with dwarfism maybe?

NutElla5x · 18/02/2019 09:26

A person with dwarfism maybe?

I did articulate that I was questioning people of normal height.

weebarra · 18/02/2019 09:27

I'm 4ft 10 and was offered surgery to add height when I was younger. I refused it and I felt my height wasn't too abnormal and I felt it would be too much.
However it was the leg breaking kind, not heel raising.

Grumpasaurous · 18/02/2019 09:34

Just found the article.

If it’s like a wedge in the heel surely that’s going to throw your back out of kilter and also BUNIONS!!!

After a couple of solid decades wearing heels due to being a shortarse, I have cultivated a lovely bunion and can no longer wear heels 😕

NutElla5x · 18/02/2019 09:36

Oh God if this is what she's had done it's even worse than I thought!

I don’t know if this is urban myth or not, but I heard a story of someone having some kind of silicone implant embedded under her scalp to become talll enough to become a flight attendant. (Boob head!!!)

NutElla5x · 18/02/2019 09:42

I'm very surprised you were offered weebarra because I don't think your height is particularly abnormal either, and I can't imagine being a bit dinky has affected your quality of life at all has it?

Exactly Grumpasaurous it sounds like it has the potential to cause so many problems! I wish I could find more info on the procedure, because despite my misgivings I am genuinely interested.

NutElla I think dwarf is ok as a term, it refers to a specific condition and I have heard dwarfs refer to themselves as such.
Midgets though - not so much.

AuntieOxident · 18/02/2019 11:46

That image is awful — and surely a wedge type implant would be more practical (and comfortable).
I wear lots of wedges Grin

I'd assumed it was a wedge type inplant, and maybe it is.This was just one of the images I got when I googled heel implant. There was also this

Imagine having to spend the rest of your life tottering about like fucking bambi on ice! Imagine trying to get out of the bath or take a shower! Imagine after a night on the town or a hard day on your feet at work never being able to look forward to getting home to change into your comfy old slippers.Sod that!

Haha!!! That pic is brilliant!

arethereanyleftatall · 18/02/2019 12:59

That is so sad and awful.

LostInShoebiz · 19/02/2019 22:18

is that word still allowed?

Generally it’s person with dwarfism rather than a dwarf.
