To buy an Ear Popper?

Does anyone have any positive experiences?

My inner ear has been blocked since November. GP has given me a steroid nasal spray which gave me nosebleeds. I’ve also tried the Sterimar over the counter salt water nasal spray. Nothing helps. I’m back at the doctors next week as he said to go back once it’s been 3 months if no improvement.

I did a bit of late night mumsnetting last night and read about ear poppers. They’re not cheap but I’m desperate! Unfortunately I can’t find the thread now where I read about it.

Any advice?

Thank you

You can get a vibrating thing for eustachian tube pain - its not a panacea, but did give a bit of relief.

Does an anti-histamine relieve it at all?

Or a neti pot?

WhatHaveIFound 3+ years? Poor you! I’m going nuts after 3 months 😱

EvaHarknessRose these past 3 months I’ve tried antihistamines and decongestants, but no difference. Will google the vibrating thing! Never heard of a neti pot but looking at it I guess it’s a similar theory to the nasal sprays that the GP gave me. Off to google vibrating things... !

Thought I’d add something to this thread due to dh recent ongoing experience with glue ear.

Last year he was having repeat ear infections and ended up with glue ear, tinnitus and reduced hearing in one ear.
Initially, he tried the otovent kit, which did work, but after a while, it wasn’t as effective on draining the ears. He has Eustachian tube dysfunction.

So last year, we decided on the costly ear popper, hoping it would work.
First try, I could see immediately on dh face how effective it was. He said it was like the otovent but much stronger In pressure.
He’s been using regularly since and he has full hearing back and no tinnitus. So money well spent.

He also got a nasal spray from ent, which loosens the fluid stuck in the ear. So together with the ear popper, it cleared everything up.

Hortuslover thank you for that. I’m glad it worked for him.

I get blocked middle ears because of allergies. It got to the point where steroid nasal sprays weren’t working & I was in agony so I bought an ear popper in desperation, it’s fantastic, would definitely recommend getting one. If you live anywhere near me you can have a go with mine before buying one!

Littledinosaur I’m so glad it worked for you. There is hope then! Thanks for your advice xx

Same as WhatHaveIFound, I have had a feeling of fullness for 2+ years now. Have seen various ENT docs. Have tried nasal sprays, neuropathic meds, had a scan for acoustic neuroma, tried some more neuropathic meds. Nothing has worked/ shown anything up. It’s bloodythere though, every second of every day. Drives me bloody insane.

I’ve also had an appt with a maxillofacial doc as I occassiably has discomfort in jaw. Sometimes if there is something wrong with your jaw it can cause a feeling of pressure in the ear. This was not the case for me but could be worth checking out...

Oh and mine gets worse when I’m menstruating. Much worse. Has anyone else noticed this with their ear issues?

WhatHaveIFound · 19/02/2019 07:34

Thanks Littledinosaur, i may go back to the doctors and see what else they can come up with.

I don't think it helps that i fly most months. Long haul is worse as i sometimes experience vertigo for a couple of days following a flight.
