I started a job 21st Jan.
Last week I got a chest and throat infection and was off weds, thurs and Friday was a booked A/L day. I went in the Mon and Tue very sick.

This weekend side effect from the ABs I think but in bed all day Saturday and Sunday with worst headache I've ever had and throwing up bright yellow sick all while trying to keep my blood sugars on check (type 1 diabetic) can hardly eat or drink I'm so weak.

Meant to be in today but still feel terrible esp the headache. I'm going to call in as I'll never make it there but what if I'm still no better soon? Shall I go to the doctor for a fit note? Never had one don't know how it all works or just hope I get better.

I've never felt so bad!

Thanks

Hope you get well soon. It's bad timing but you can't go in when you are vomiting.

StealthPolarBear · 18/02/2019 06:53

Clearly its not ideal but yanbu. Did you have a good sickness record before? If so I'd be reassuring them this isn't the usual way and yes I'd be going to the gp.
Fwiw I think you'd be stupid to pull a sickie this soon, I'm sure they realise it too. I called in sick on my very first day of a new job, felt awful but I was there for seven years and promoted twice. And never had another sick day :)

Where I work you can self certify first 7 days. If you are going to be off longer than that you would need to get a note from your GP.
Hope you feel better soon. You can't help being in so rest and you'll recover quicker.

Being ill not being in 🙄

Obviously it's not an ideal situation but please just take care of yourself, stay home and get well. Work is work at the end of the day. Thanks

What sort of business is it - you'd be fine where I work as people are understanding. Did you declare the T1 as a disability - a reasonable adjustment would be that you might take more sick days than others. Has anyone mentioned it?

SubparOwl · 18/02/2019 07:12

You can self certify for the first 7 calendar days that you are off sick. This includes days you aren't meant to be at work eg. weekends.
For a shorter period if you want proof for work your GP will charge you around £20 for a private note.
Not sure how this will affect your probation period, but these things can't be helped. Flowers

I feel for you .I got given steriods and antibiotics towards end last week for a chest infection and i felt dire .I self certified my temperature was sky high .Fast foward this morning my asthma has been horrendous all weekend got very close point i thought i may end up in a&e so booked in to see Dr this morning .I used to go in hated being off but sometimes you have to put yourself first .I do suffer from another problem aswell as asthma which puts me in the disability so it is adjusted i probably will end up with more sicks days but i am no good my family on my knees so i dont push myself anymore .I pretty sure the diabetes comes under the disability cover but not 100% sure .Good luck op hope you feel better soon Flowers.

It's not ideal but it is what it is.
You can self certify for 7 days and after that you need a fit note.
