To wake my baby up?

Posting for traffic.

5 months old, not fed since half 4/5. She is a bit congested. Should I wake her for a feed?

I wouldn't, never wake a sleeping baby they say! As long as she doesn't have a temp I'm sure she will wake up when she's hungry?

Bambamber · 17/02/2019 21:58

I wouldn't. I would perhaps tickler her feet slight just to check she is still easily roused, but otherwise I would leave her a while longer

kirinm · 17/02/2019 21:58

Does she normally sleep for this long? (My 5 month old doesn't so if she did sleep for a long time out of the blue, I'd be more inclined to wake her). If she usually sleeps this long or has done, I'd leave her.

AppleKatie · 17/02/2019 21:59

Not at 5 months. I’d prob wake after 12 hours for a feed. At that age I’d just stopped feeding my DS overnight. Although he was still waking for a cuddle Hmm

MumOfOne92 · 17/02/2019 22:12

@kirinm yes overnight but 4.30 or 5pm isn't normally her last feed.

@AppleKatie I don't feed her overnight but 4.30/5 is very early for her last feed.

@Bambamber I've stroked the side of her face a couple of times and she stretches and moves and goes back to sleep! She's had 21oz today.

Has she been asleep since 4.30?

MumOfOne92 · 17/02/2019 22:16

@GiveMeAllTheGin8 no around 6/7

OP posts:
MumOfOne92 · 17/02/2019 22:18

@GiveMeAllTheGin8 she seemed grizly before she went to sleep, but by the time I'd stuck the kettle on and got back she was falling asleep as it was boiling! I wasn't expecting her to be asleep for so long!

kirinm · 17/02/2019 22:20

If she's only been asleep since 6/7pm I definitely wouldn't be waking her.

Tigger001 · 17/02/2019 22:27

If she's only been asleep a few hrs I wouldn't wake her yet.

Maryann1975 · 17/02/2019 22:28

I’d leave her to sleep if she didn’t go to sleep till 7. Had she gone to sleep at 4 with her feed, I’d have woken her after an hour or so to make sure the long sleep was a bit later on when I wanted to be asleep, but as she didn’t go off till 7, I’d be thnking that she has gone down for the night and leaving her too it. How long does she normally sleep for in the evening/over night?

YellowLilies · 17/02/2019 22:29

Nah. I'd give her until you want to go to bed and then dream feed! 😊

AppleKatie · 17/02/2019 22:30

I would leave her. It is early but if she’s a bit under the weather a good sleep might be just what she needs.

AloneLonelyLoner · 17/02/2019 22:30

At around 6 months they'd be expected to have about 30oz so 21 at 5 months is I think nothing to worry about. If her fontanelle is sunken then maybe it would be good to try and feed her. Otherwise, it just seems like she needs a good sleep-if she has a cold her immune system is working extra hard. Try not to worry would be my advice.

peachgreen · 17/02/2019 22:32

Crikey, no. Never wake a sleeping baby once they've gained 10% of their birth weight.

peachgreen · 17/02/2019 22:33

That's what my HV said anyway!

MumOfOne92 · 17/02/2019 22:34

She normally sleeps for 10-12hrs and can go as long as 14hrs (ish) without eating. Was just feeling a bit anxious over her last feed of the day being a 3rd bottle as early as 5pm! It isn't the first time she has settled on 3 bottles, she did the other day but it was a bit later when she had her 3rd!

It might be she was up at 6am this morning which is a lot earlier than normal!

Guess I'll have a hangry early riser tomorrow.

Thanks everyone!

agree with others. She might well wake for a night feed but no need to worry yet.

MumOfOne92 · 17/02/2019 22:42

@AppleKatie you might be right!

@AloneLonelyLoner well it's 21oz plus whatever she got from me this morning before a bottle. According to the box of cow&gate it says 5 x 6oz for her weight but she usually has 4 x 7oz.

@peachgreen I think I will leave her, she has doubled her birth weight. But she has almost dropped a percentile line. She is now near enough on the 0.4th. Weighed her 4 weeks ago just before she was 5 months old (6 months end of the month) and she was 11lb 3, only 5lb 10 when she was born so I think this is why I worry. Having her weighed tomorrow and the HV are there so if I have amy concerns I suppose I could ask them.

@garethsouthgatesmrs thank you :)

Mine is congested and sleepy, eating half his normal amounts. Nobody's hungry when they're sick with a cold! Let her sleep. As long as she's having wet nappies and doesn't have a fever she's probably fine.

MumOfOne92 · 17/02/2019 22:53

@Rtmhwales she is having wet and dirty nappies yes! Saying that think she should probably have a change but it would wake her up! Blush

I do forget babies are human too! I don't eat much when I have cold either!

Tigger001 · 17/02/2019 22:56

OP my DS was only 5lb 14 when he was born, so I totally understand the worrying, I think it's only natural but yeah I think just prepare for a hungry one when she wakes.

MumOfOne92 · 17/02/2019 23:17

@Tigger001 awww, it's such a worry sometimes. Hate it when I feel like she hasn't eaten enough. Really resisting the urge to wake her! When I see other babies only a month or so old and the same size it gets to me and makes me worry a bit!

And.... she's up!
