yep that's where i was going with dolphin or orca - they communicate with echolocation, sad sounds when separated from their babies

I think Bluebell the rabbit is a bit of a stretch, he's not a very well know character from the book, and don't they all die at the end? (can't remember) so no babies for any of them

As an aside - Watership Down has an amazing lack of baby rabbits, and the making thereof.
