To fear DC may get Scurvy?

TopsyTurvyScurvyLurgy · 16/02/2019 16:59

I'm only slightly kidding here.

DC2 will refuse to eat any fruit or vegetables at all. It's causing me a huge amount of stress, and I've tried everything. DC happily ate everything until around 2, and then just stopped Confused
My other DC eat a wide range, so I'm not sure what's gone wrong.

Nothing will work - not blending / pureeing / mincing. Not soups or smoothies or sauces. Not bribing, or ignoring, or insisting.
We've read upteen books, visited the doctor, asked SENCO for advice.
I think they don't understand the issue, or think I'm exaggerating.

DC looks really run down, and is quite pale and skinny.

If anyone has any serious advice, or anything that will work, please share this with me!
They are in upper primary by the way,

What do they eat and how old are they?

PuzzlingPuzzle · 16/02/2019 17:07

It’s why they invented those gummy vitamins that look and taste like Haribo sweets! Does he eat well otherwise and have a good variety of foods? For instance if you served chicken, potatoes and veg would he eat the chicken and the potato and refuse the veg? Because I really don’t think that’s THAT uncommon for small children and most will grow out of it eventually.

TopsyTurvyScurvyLurgy · 16/02/2019 17:08

We do have chewy vitamins - it doesn't make me feel much better though.

They eat everything other than what I've said. Fish, meat, rice, pasta, dairy, bread, spreads, drinks. Everything else is fine. Just not fruit or veg.

My DD1 is the same - up until 2 she enjoyed everything I gave her, now she won't touch a fruit or vegetable. I can only get her to drink apple juice, so she has a small amount every day, she went through a phase at about 3.5 to 4 (she's nearly 7now) when her hair was thinning and falling out, so I gave her Minadex (sp?) for extra vitamins. Now she just has chewy vitamins when I remember most days. As long as they're a healthy weight and not losing, I wouldn't stress too much. Their tastes will keep changing as they get older Smile

halfwitpicker · 16/02/2019 17:09

Juice?

TopsyTurvyScurvyLurgy · 16/02/2019 17:09

if you served chicken, potatoes and veg

My eldest was like this it is really worrying isn't it? Have you tried fruit juice or salad veg dd used to eat them as well as a multivitamin she didn't get scurvy I didn't fight her i used to offer and give her what I knew shr would eat. She is almost 26 and she was telling me about the veg curry she was making Hmm

mrsnec · 16/02/2019 17:14

I just keep trying with mine and when I find something they like they get it all the time. I don't care if they have to dip cucumber in ketchup or dip strawberries in a bit of sugar or spread philadelphia on Apple slices if it's what I have to do to get them to eat fruit or veg. Mine eat plain boiled broccoli sometimes too and I don't think baked beans are that bad either.

thesnapandfartisinfallible · 16/02/2019 17:14

If you blended up a tomato sauce and made pizza with it, would he eat that?

Does he eat potatoes? If so would he eat bubble and squeak?

SummerHouse · 16/02/2019 17:14

I know it is stressful but it is actually not that bad a diet in comparison with others. Some children will only eat three or four different things. How about juice?

mummyhaschangedhername · 16/02/2019 17:18

If you take all fruits and veg off the table it really does limit things unless by anything you mean highly processed things.

What are they having for tea tonight? And what have they has this week? Is it all pizza and chicken nuggets? I guess my biggest concern would be of all they eat is processed food, I'm not a processed food police, my kids had dominos this week and having Chinese tonight, but it's more worrying of that's the only thing in their diet.

I have a fussy child, I have 4 and one I class as fussy. He would happily eat plain boiled rice everyday 🙈 but he eats veg and fruits but just less excited about them then the other three.

TopsyTurvyScurvyLurgy · 16/02/2019 17:18

Out of the suggestions on here, they say no to baked beans, salad, potatoes.
Juice I get away with, if totally smooth - so no pulp. It's just thought of as a drink, nothing more.

Pizza would get eaten, yes.

If they are drinking juices they won't get scurvy

YeOldeTrout · 16/02/2019 17:21

Potatoes are FULL of vit. C. You're covered. Even crisps have some Vit. C.

YeOldeTrout · 16/02/2019 17:23

oh wait, my bad, I misread that... so won't even eat chips? Yes, even french fries have vit C in them.

Juice without pulp would suffice.

TopsyTurvyScurvyLurgy · 16/02/2019 17:23

They won't eat potatoes either.

I think if juices are getting drunk then i wouldn't worry too much i would put stuff on her plate though and if she refuses then just ignore it I think it is a control thing

TopsyTurvyScurvyLurgy · 16/02/2019 17:24

I misread that... so won't even eat chips?

Cross posted Grin
Yes, oven chips only though. Home made ones get refused.

MrsJayy · 16/02/2019 17:26

Aridane · 16/02/2019 17:27

Fruit juice and oven chips are better than nothing

Ainba · 16/02/2019 17:27

For things like pasta do they eat sauce with it? You can blend all sorts into tomato sauce and it be hidden! Ice lollies with blended fruit?
