To puncture my ear drum?

I realise anyone remotely medical / sensible will say "ffs woman, STOP!"

I get recurrent sinusitis, got eustachean tube dysfunction & have constantly blocked feeling (plus reduced hearing) in ear. Most of the time ear drum is retracted.

Today ear is so painful. Equalising pressure doesn't work. Sinus spray etc no help.

I am fantasising about puncturing the drum with a needle to relieve pressure. I mean, how can it be worse than if it perforated? Had that happen few times before.

Only time ear has felt ok is when I had grommet in or when on long term antibiotics.

Let. Me. Jab. My. Eardrum!

@LonelyMouse that's exactly what I'm going to ask ENT about. Need to get GP to re-refer. Have you had it done?

@LilQuim No, I researched it as my ears are driving me mad and I'm still waiting for an ENT appointment (been waiting for months) so I don't know what the problem actually is. I'm constantly off balance and I also would like to ram something into my ear to see if that would help. Hope you're feeling better today.

Yowch this thread has given me a bloody ear ache! I do sympathise my little boy had recurrent ear infections and they are just vile. Ear ache is up there with tooth ache in my book!

Just reading this makes me want to pass you some dynamite to chew on. Fire in the hole Grin

My DS had grommets and the best thing for washing hair were ear plugs made by the audiologist with some sort of epoxy resin I bet it wasn't that she pushed in to make a tight fit and then when hardened it made the closest fitting plug as it was personalised to his ear shape, no water got in even during swimming.

my youngest last perforated ear drum didn't heal as usual, and after 3 years - waiting till he was old enough, stopped having ear infections so often etc it stretched further so they decided to do the op anyway, it failed as hole was now so big, he' had a second go after couple of years, it did cover some of it up , but not al; so that failed so now he hates the earplugs for swimming etc so got to say no get yourself to a doctor asap

There's some kind of warm salt compress for the ear to draw poison out. My sister's burst with that and olbas oil steaming.
