AIBU to think that MN are not following their own rules by clamping down on free speech on the feminism boards?

Mumsnet's rules specifically state that:

  1. Free speech by definition applies to all; for a debate to take place, opposing views which follow our Talk guidelines need to be tolerated, even if you disagree with them.

However, this no longer appears to be the case. Any post relating to the transgender debate which members of the feminism forums do not agree with is immediately classed as 'goady', members throw their toys out of the pram and complain and there is a high likelihood of the post being taken down by moderators.
There are numerous threads discussing alleged hypocrisy on the part of transgender individuals and yet the moment one is started highlighting something similar from the so-called transphobic side it is removed. This is clear double standards on the part of moderators. There is clear public interest in asking questions about a prominent GC campaigner who claims to support homosexuals but then says they support protestors who are clearly protesting against them.
If Mumsnet does not believe in free speech then maybe it should amend it's rules because at the moment it is allowing members to dictate which threads stand and which are removed.

Seems pretty inflammatory to adopt such a username and post in AIBU if you've already had a thread removed.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 16/02/2019 15:28

Why have you got this thing about saying 'you'

I dont feel personally associated or tainted

What you coukd try is maybe

If people feel personally associated or tainted by something that's posted then maybe theyneed to look at themselves

See...

That way it avoids you from putting words in their mouths or attributing opinions to them that they don't actually have

antifa · 16/02/2019 15:29

How does that fit with starting threads like the one linked where OP decides what views will be shared?

Absolutely no different to the many threads on here where the OP links to a news article about a trans person and says 'isn't this disgraceful'. It's an opinion. You can agree with it or disagree with it, that's your choice.

OH the thread that was a personal attack on someone and then saying that all feminsit were in thrall of the really evil woman and so all totally evil themselves . Maybes if you had avoided the attack all feminsit my association line you might have gotten away with the personal attack,

LilaJude · 16/02/2019 15:30

How does that fit with starting threads like the one linked where OP decides what views will be shared?

I disagree that saying ‘there are loads of anti trans threads so I would like this to be a positive one’ is the same as deciding what views will be shared. It was a request, not an order. For that to be seen as goady in and of itself is a bit of an indictment of FWR in my opinion.

antifa · 16/02/2019 15:33

OH the thread that was a personal attack on someone and then saying that all feminsit were in thrall of the really evil woman and so all totally evil themselves .

Except there was no mention of all feminists or, in fact, any claim about anyone supporting the individual concerned so you're argument doesn't stand.

Tin that case I have the wrong thread....or are you being very precise, was the term “all mumsnet feminists”

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 16/02/2019 15:40

midge

I recognise anti from various threads so it may be a bit of groundhog day

antifa · 16/02/2019 15:40

Zero mention of any other person supporting the individual involved.

Why isn't this thread in site stuff? Speak to MNHQ direct if you don't like the rules. Not sure how we have any influence over how this site is run.

Also - and I know this might be thinking outside the box a bit - there are other forums available for you to use, if you are unhappy with how this is run. I hear kiwifarms covers a broad range of chat topics.

MIdgebabe · 16/02/2019 15:59

I have just checked, the thread I was recalling has def been taken down as well as whatever you are referring to. Time for a nice cup of tea all round it seems

NotBadConsidering · 17/02/2019 07:01

What’s the weather like in NZ, OP?

donquixotedelamancha · 17/02/2019 08:09

Your deleted post (or at least the one I saw) was expressed in a dumb and goady way, but I don't think it should have been deleted. They certainly are violating their free speech objectives and they've been quite clear why they have to resort to this.

Mods are very hair trigger over the Butlerism debate because of huge numbers of complaints targeting the FWR threads. Usually this impacts the GC side more, but any trouble making thread will go.

If you want your posts to stand, I'm afraid you'll have to pretend to post in good faith.

donquixotedelamancha · 17/02/2019 08:13

I think both threads were taken down for investigation, rather than permanently removed. Have you asked MN about this?

NeurotrashWarrior · 17/02/2019 08:57

It’s not. It’s just that the other side give crap arguments that fall down when science and reality is introduced. Not our fault that unicorns don’t exist. 🦄

100% this.

Also, most people who come and visit and lurk and ask questions end up coming to the same conclusion, so they stay.

There's a very big difference between asking genuine questions and being goady.

Also, a number of very knowledgeable and eloquent transsexuals post there too.

Anything remotely transphobic is deleted and has been deleted.

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 17/02/2019 10:18

Two threads don?

Only saw the one...must stay alert

The country needs more lerts

Rufusthebewilderedreindeer · 17/02/2019 10:24

Oh found it

Only just got up Grin

Beerincomechampagnetastes · 17/02/2019 10:30

Yawn

lubeybooby · 17/02/2019 10:51

there is a difference between free speech and hate speech, and the feminism boards are constantly crossing the lines

QwertyLou · 17/02/2019 10:55

Doesn’t this belong on Site Stuff? No shade - I made the same mistake myself once, easy enough to do 😊

wrongsideofhistorymyarse · 17/02/2019 11:01

You are disingenuous OP.

TruthHertz81 · 17/02/2019 11:25

Meh, I'm bored of the trans debate. I'd probs find it less irksome to get dressed next to a TW than to read all the nonstop threads on here tbh.
