Do whatever you need to cheer yourself up! I passed my theory first time but only passed my practical on the 4th attempt. I've been driving for 14 years and I've had no accidents or anything close. So it's not an indication of how good a driver you'll be more how you deal with tests! Hang in there you'll do it next time.

You will get there Jenmumma so don't despair. If I can do it so can you. Your manicure is lovely.

DS failed his this week. I am very cross as I missed an afternoon of work to pick him up early from school & drive him to the test centre (no public transport available).

I don't think he's bothered to read the Highway Code at all, just practised using the stupid app.

Drogosnextwife · 16/02/2019 10:20

OP don't feel bad. It's quite a bit harder than it used to be. My brother failed twice and her just failed his driving test for a third time. You will do it next time.

OP ds18, is an intelligent kid, done really well in his GCSE’s and A-Levels, now I’m university- he failed his theory 3 times! Passed on the 4th and passed his practical first time.

I done my theory the first year they were intoduced and passed first time along with my practical. If I had to sit both again I swear I’d fail!!

Chin up, book the next available text and hit the books. Good Luck!

I passed my theory first time but took 5 attempts to pass my practical. You’ll get there.

Tip: I used a theory test dvd and just did test after test until i was getting them all right through sheer repetition.

Op, my DD failed 4 theories last year, always HP, always only a few points off. Did loads of practice and we came to conclusion she was doing minimum clicks and either too early or too late.

Before her 5th we took advise from instructor and his wife (former instructor) who told us that they should do at least 4, preferably more, clicks, but with spacing, as it’s the pattern that is detected, not no of clicks. So some close together, some apart.

She got it on 5th, passed practical the first time a few weeks later, and now been driving regularly for almost a year.

Theory was stressful at time but just a hurdle to get through!!!

Ds2 took about 4 goes at theory but passed practical first time. His driving instructor said that is often the way. I did a lot of the theory work with him. What I found out

  1. The questions are things that are not in the highway code
  2. Keep doing the practice q. But when unsure, stop, google, then answer. This way you learn it.
  3. Most questions are doable but they chuck in about five to six completely random, very difficult, only 2% of people can answer questions so that if you have got, say just a few of the simpler, obvious, should know stuff quesyions wrong, then you fail.
  4. They love trams. Loads of questions about trams.

It is better to do once you are driving because the normal, need this for driving, type questions become natural, second nature leaving you time to concentrate on trickier stuff like how you know uou are in a 30 zone when there isn't a sign.

Don't give up and start lessons.

I second what everyone is saying about the Hazard tests. I clicked in a 1-2-3 fashion (but not too rhythmically that it would be regarded as cheating). I noticed when using the CD-ROM that I actually clicked too early so it was a non score even though I should in theory have got a 5. By clicking three times it meant I scored something.

With theory, it is just practise with the CD-ROM that did it for me. I wouldn't use the app. Sitting at a desk and using a computer I think would help you take it in more. It looks like you only just failed too so I wouldn't worry. You may find you just get easier questions next time. I'm sure you will pass.

Even in the practical I was pretty calm and passed. I just wish I was confident enough to actually bloody drive more than 3 miles up the road now! It just goes to show that passing first time isn't everything. I know loads of people who failed their theory and practical multiple times and happily hit the motorway, whereas I refuse to to go on a dual carriageway where the speed limit is 50mph! I wouldn't put too much pressure on yourself, the important thing is getting there in the end and being a safe and confident driver, even if it means not passing a few times. My case shows that passing first time means absolutely nothing!

Awwww thanks for being kind, lovely ladies. I feel so thick ! Even contemplated telling OH and my little boy that I'd passed lol 🙄. The breakfast sorted me out and I'm gonna get back on the horse (it may actually come to that 🙄)
