AIBU to delay my period?

Tinkerbellone · 16/02/2019 08:30

Posting for traffic thanks.... i'm not on the pill or anything. I'm 44. My periods are always slightly irregular and heavy.
I used a period tracker app so I know roughly when I'm due on.
I've booked a holiday in March with new boyfriend. After checking it was all clear.

My period this month was four days early Now I check my period tracker and see in going to be on my period for my holiday!!!
How can I delay or stop my period?? Please help! Thank you xx

You can get norethisterone that will delay your period but unsure if GP will prescribe, my CCG refuse to anymore as it's not for medical purposes. If not see if you can go on the COC for a few months and take it back to back

Nodrama999 · 16/02/2019 08:33

The pill can do this, you will need to speak to your dr. I’m presuming it would be a double benefit being on the pill whilst on holiday

MindatWork · 16/02/2019 08:34

You can get a pill called notethisterone to delay your period. Go to your gp or alternatively you can get it from Lloyds pharmacy without a prescription (you order and pay for it online and you have to have a blood pressure check when you go in to pick it up.

You have to take it 3 times a day and start at least 3/4 days before your due on.

Oops cross post!

Lalliella · 16/02/2019 08:35

YANBU! There’s tablets yòu can take that do this but you need to get to the doctor sharpish to get them prescribed. You could also think about a Mirena coil then no more periods ever again, hurrah! (although some women do have side effects, there’s lots of info on here so take a look) Have a fab holiday!

Tinkerbellone · 16/02/2019 08:36

Thanks. I've not been on the pill for over 12 years so I don't understand all the abbreviations or if anything has changed in that time! Thank you

You could tell the Dr a white lie and say it’s for a big presentation at work. I literally couldn’t stand up when I was on the worst day of my period.

You really don’t need to lie. Just speak to a GP and ask for something to delay your period. Holidays are a common reason!

I found the side effects of Noresthisterone awful, but have since used Provera for the same thing and found it much better.

Whereareyouspot · 16/02/2019 08:39

Norethisterone converts to oestrogen so if you are high risk for the combined pill ie oestrogen containing products then you shouldn’t take it so smoker, previous blood clot of family history of blood clot, liver or cardiac problems etc.

Safer is medroxy progesterone acetate but quite a few GPs won’t be familiar with using it for this indication so google it first and go armed with the info

It may not be clear medical need but that’s true of many things and having a heavy period can be disabling.

If you are safe with the combined pill then starting that now and not having a break at the end of the packet ie just going straight through to another one is also an option and would work as a contraceptive too. But at age 44 you need to be squeaky clean risk factor wise!

If you had more time a Mirena coil would have been another option but too late for it to settle really.

Whereareyouspot · 16/02/2019 08:40

Medroxy is also known as provera which is what last poster means

Mirena usually causes irregular bleeding for at least six weeks so too late really for that

What contraception do you use now?

curious541 · 16/02/2019 08:44

I'm sure I ordered something like that online with boots, picked it up in store and they contacted my drs to let them know I was having it. Although this was 5.5 yrs ago
I delayed my period so it fell in the 8days between wedding and honeymoon

DinoGreen · 16/02/2019 08:47

You can get it from your doctor but you can also order it online, I used doctorfox.co.uk, paid about £13 which is only £5 more than an NHS prescription ... was far easier than trying to get an appointment at my surgery! It arrived a day later in the post so super quick too.

Tinkerbellone · 16/02/2019 08:47

No contraception... not had sex for 8 years!
So it's extra disappointing... as this would be first time!!

So which pill would be the best with least side effects for my age? I don't drink much or smoke or have any history of clots or heart disease, I'm average height and weight too
.
I don't want a 'weak' pill and have break through bleeding either Blush

Thank you everyone

It doesn’t work like that, all come with the caveat that they may cause irregular - including break through - bleeding.

Hi.

I am 19 year old female.

Advice needed. I am stressing and worrying my self over this

I took norethisterone in July for just under 3 weeks ( doctor prescribed ) to stop period for my holiday. I stopped taking the tablet once home and started period about 3 days later ( on 5 th August ) it was painful but not that heavy kind of just as usual. It lasted for approx 5/6 days

Now I haven’t had a period since 5th - 11th august (3 month) Is this due to the tablet messing up my cycle or should I be worried ?
I also am very stressed with university work so this could be having a impact ?

Thanks in advance smile

ViaSacra · 23/11/2019 14:43

@Wood7

Is there any chance you could be pregnant?

Wood7 · 23/11/2019 15:26

@viasacra

no - no chance

Thanks

ViaSacra · 23/11/2019 15:29

@Wood7

In that case I would make a GP appointment and talk it through with them.

busybarbara · 23/11/2019 16:04

If not see if you can go on the COC for a few months

I believe that’s what she wants to do while she’s on holiday... Wink
