To want to be able to sleep?

Aaaaaargh, sorry.

I have been surviving off of about 4 hours sleep a night (mostly broken) for what seems like forever now.

My dp snores so badly that the whole bed vibrates and its like sleeping next to a phneumatic drill, sleeping on the sofa doesn't work as we live in a tiny flat.
Then there's my 2yr old ds who wakes every couple of hours for a drink, and my dd who has cerebral palsy who wakes because she gets stiff and needs help turning.

My dp snores in any position, and no amout of shoving, thumping or screaming from me makes him stop, he knows the reason he snores is because he needs to loose weight but he is too lazy to do so.
My ds screams and tries to kick the bedroom door down if he doesn't get a drink (soon to see a behavior nurse about it) and my poor dd is in so much pain and so stiff if she isn't helped during the night.

I constantly look pale and have bags under my eyes and people often ask me if i'm ill.
I'm on the computer now as dp is happily snoring his head off, so no chance of me getting sleep tonight

Has your DP tried everything with the snoring, ie those nasal strips, docs etc.
Can't he get up in the night with the kids as well and take some of the pressure off you.
Personally, I would make him sleep on the sofa and get yourself some earplugs, your ds is sure to wake you anyway so you can turn dd?

hoolagirl · 05/07/2007 00:45

Oh and I am up at this time as DP is currently snoring !!

OrangeMoon · 05/07/2007 01:01

Dp has tried every anti-snoring devise going (i made him) and even the doctor said he needed to loose weight.

He does sometimes get up in the night to see to the kids but he works 13 hour days as a lorry driver so it's important he gets some sleep or he'll fall asleep at the wheel (has happened a couple of times but luckily he was in his works yard and lorry was stationary, but could be a completely different story if he were moving).

Alao tried with him sleeping on the sofa (i cant wear earplugs due to problems with my eardrums) but as we live in a small flat i can still hear him even with all the doors shut.

And he's STILL snoring

My DD is overweight and he snores so much you can easily hear it all over a large house - he got told to look at this website and do the tests to see how he snores - now he has a retainer thing and it works wonders (even though he does spit it out and snore still occasionally)

Some of the treatments are quite expensive but works wonders

wishing you many rested nights for the future

Can't you just leave your 2yo with water in a closed cup/sports bottle? Your DD is obviously a different issue and does need help but maybe DP could help her at weekends when he doesn't have to work the next day.

Is your DP trying to loose weight? How much overweight is he? I had a problem with snoring a while back but it seems to have eased. And I only lost 1/2 stone. I wasn't huge at the time either - only size 10/12 rather than the size 10 I used to be.

OrangeMoon · 05/07/2007 10:23

Ah yes dp's gp gave him a list of websites to look at including that one.

He needs to loose at least 5 stone, but i reckon more like 3-4 as he has always been built like a rugby player and muscley.

As for my ds he does drink out of a sports cup but he wants it re-filling all the time, he is soon to have blood tests to check for diabetes.

That does sound like a lot of water orangemoon. What about two sportsbottles while you wait for his appt or would he drink twice as much in the same time.

OrangeMoon · 05/07/2007 11:34

Ds would drink both bottles if i gave him 2 not to mention the amount of nappies i have to change because he drinks so much, he gets through almost 6 litres in 24 hours, and it just comes straight out the other end.

Hmm I suspected that might be what happened. It does sound like a serious amount of water. Really, can you get your DH to do weekend nights?

OrangeMoon · 05/07/2007 11:57

He does do them sometimes but he is a heavy sleeper and will wake up for nothing, even me pushing and shoving him to get out of bed and see to the kids, and unfortunately for me i am a light sleeper so i wake up at the slightest noise.
