Well it's actually for my husband, he's concerned about leaving his job for the 12 week residential training, failing some part and then not being able to go back to his old job - would anyone be able to give us a bit of info about what the course is like please?
Are there any unusual things that we wouldn't think of like in the army they get you ironing your uniform perfectly etc.
Thanks!

What county is this for?

It's a pretty hard course but they don't want people to fail.

Where I am they weren't overly strict over perfectly ironed clothing but would point it out if you didn't iron your shirt. Shoes had to be polished nicely too.

Coulddowithanap · 15/02/2019 21:33

Also the men had to be freshly shaved every morning. I remember a few guys got told off for stubble.

ATBhinchers · 15/02/2019 21:38

Is this for retained firefighter?

LeSquigh · 15/02/2019 21:38

They are strict about ironed shirts where I am. The course is hard and a lot of people don’t get through it. He will not have a lot of time for anything else whilst he is there and if he’s home for weekends he will likely be studying. It’s more technical than you might imagine! Recruits are pulled up if anything is done wrong and the whole squad is treated as if they had all done wrong (eg laps/sit ups etc. It is very demanding. Good luck to him. You are welcome to PM me if you like.

Hi, it is for the UK.
My dh was in the army briefly when he was young (medically discharged) so he was wondering how similar the training would be in regards to that.

Oh and it's for a Wholetime firefighter.

Can't say how similar it is as I've not been in the army. I do know where I am their next recruit course will be a lot more like LeSquigh mentions above. Press ups etc (there was a bit of that when I started) also they want you to know your facts and figures on everything. (Everything is taught to you so it's just revising and remembering)
