To think if a bank have breached data protection they should take it seriously?!

Somehow Natwest have mixed up my details, with those of another customer, and I've received messages this week providing information I definitely shouldn't have. I contacted them to make them aware of this and the advisor I spoke to seemed very shocked and said someone would get back to me the same day. It's now been 3 days and they seem to be very reluctant to tell me what's happened, and what, if any, of my information has been breached. I've tried using their online chat facility to find out what's happening and have got some pretty abrupt and what I would consider unprofessional responses. AIBU in thinking a breach of data protection should be taken more seriously?

Yes it should. And it should have been reported to the ICO. You can ask them if they have done this.

Sexnotgender · 15/02/2019 16:03

Make sure you take screenshots of your conversations. And report to the ICO.

I work in a high street bank- this is a major breach of GDPR. You have a right to know if any of your details have been given to the wrong customer, but that's probably all they will tell you.
I would try contact them again (branch or customer services) and make sure a formal complaint if that hasn't been done!

Justonedayatatime11 · 15/02/2019 16:22

They don't seem to want to tell me anything... I'm on hold to them now but I'm just getting what feels like excuses about how they can't give me any info until they've identified the other customer

You should put it in writing and tell them what you expect as an outcome, tell them if you dont get what you want you will take your complaint to the financial ombudsman

Jess499427 · 19/02/2019 16:48

They might be unable to tell you the full details yet if they’re still investigating what’s happened but they should at least be candid about that and let you know when to expect a response.

I would be going to the media at this stage. Yes even the Fail

NatWest are thoroughly crap for stuff like this. They transferred all my savings out of my account last year because the cashier entered the wrong sort code. Took WEEKS to fix and I was passed from pillar to post because no department would claim ownership of it. Took a long, detailed, bullet-pointed hard-copy complaint letter to make them take action.

Awwlookatmybabyspider · 19/02/2019 17:06

YANBU.I'm with NatWest. Hope its not personal info. That's a slur on them btw, not you.

Justonedayatatime11 · 19/02/2019 17:46

They won't confirm or deny whether any of my personal info has been compromised, they told me what they 'think' happened, but can't be 100% certain Hmm. Someone was meant to call me back today, but unsurprisingly I've heard nothing!
